These still fall short of the 1,718 and 235 listed by Emporis, but the numbers are otherwise higher on SSP (as higher=more accurate in this case).

Sorry to step in here.. but emporis database reports:

Calgary 221 High Rise
Edmonton 235 High Rise

Calgary - 21 U/C
Edmonton - 8 U/C

When all is finished being built - Calgary will apparently have one more tower than Edmonton. See emporis.com for their definition of Tower.

Emporis is by far the most inaccurate site for skyscrapers. As more and more buildings are added to SSP's lists, it will be the primary source for skyscrapers for most cities.

Emporis once wrote in it's intro to Vancouver that the downtown peninsula is one of the densest places on earth with more than 1 million people.
It also said that we had more skyscrapers than Toronto.

Those figure are way outdated. I don't know about Edmonton, but the Calgary numbers are incorrect. Calgary actually has many more high rise buildings u/c than Emporis lists. When the high rise buildings over 12 storeys that are u/c right now are finished, Calgary will have 6 more. Not that it matters, anyway. 12 storeys is just an arbitrary number that Emporis uses. If you use 20 storeys as a comparison, than Calgary has twice as many. The comparisons could go on forever.

I still don't understand the "12-storey" number in determining how many high rises a city has. 20 makes more sense. I'd actually argue that a specific height, such as 50 or 100 metres, would make more sense than a set number of floors.

^The actually cutoff is a height value though ... 35 metres. However height values are hard to come by hence the 35 metres or 12 storeys.

12 storeys/ 35 metres came into being when Emporis realizing it being next to impossible to document all developments was looking for a cutoff point while, at the same time, a member was submitting a list of Minneapolis buildings that was compiled 12 storeys and above. SSP followed suit.

8 storeys is the more common the highrise cut-off based again on fire truck design

I just realized, the first pic of Verve in post #253 makes it look a LOT like Arriva from the south.

What is the point of this discussion, in it's current form?

Calgary has nice shinny office towers, and Edmonton doesn't have as many.

Calgary has some more height, a big obsession for those in Calgary compensating for something else.

Point? There is none. So everyone (cold, johnnyc) untie the knot in your collective panties.

And yes, that post was an insult, though, not direct, it certain was there, and intentional.

Far far far behind every other city in Canada, but only if looking at Vancouver, Toronto or Calgary? Didn't realize these were the only cities in Canada. Winnipeg, Regina, Saskatoon, Ottawa, montreal, London, Hamilton, etc, pay attention, according to JohnnyC, you don't exist in Canada.

Montreal would be at around 600-650. Maybe 700 but that's a stretch.
sorry but Montreal (the city not the metro) is 500 +/- 10 at most

You do realize a highrise on Emporis is either 12 storeys or a building with a known height above 35m

I count 226 12+ storey buildings for Edmonton and Calgary is obviously really outdated - tarjan pointe is not under construction

I'm Editor on Emporis... and I was there mostly from the beginning (aka skyscrapers.com).
The city has never been fully covered and I know what I'm talking about.
It's partly my fault if Mtl has not accurate stats on there. But... I'm not paid for all this... That's all, I heve not enough free time/week/month/whatever.

I love skyscrapers and photography, I've given while it was a free access for SS lovers.
I undestand the onwners of the site, just can't give any more on my side.

MTL counts at least 100 skyscrapers which are not listed on Emporis, following our rules.

^^I know you're an editor on Emporis, made many of the city page drawings and that the Montreal list list is incomplete which is why I made my own for SSP.

http://skyscraperpage.com/cities/?cityID=22

keep in mind the criteria we were discussing was for only 12+ storey buildings and not all those over 35m

Sergio is right goodlooking, there's easily 100 building throughout the island with 12 floors or more that haven't been reported on emporis. Why is that so hard to believe?

I'm a little confused. SSP lists a highrise as either greater than 12 stories or greater than 35m tall.

Given that definition and consolidated to CMA (roughly):
Toronto - 2140
Vancouver - 980
Montreal - 632
Ottawa - 398
Calgary - 262
Edmonton - 248
Hamilton - 153
Winnipeg - 141
London - 119
Halifax - 79
Kitchener - 63
Quebec City - 59
Windsor - 51
Victoria - 48
Saskatoon - 46
St. Catherines - 41
Regina - 39
