I'll break it down for you.

50% of new residents moved from Illinois/Nebraska/Missouri
34% of new residents moved from California
22% of new residents moved from Canada/New York/Boston
4% of new residents were births within the county

^Link/source....?

Saying "Oh Vicelord John on the internet told me so" is a bit weird in conversation.

I'm from New Mexico... you need an "other" category for me. And add Wisconsin to your top/midwest category, I meet a surprising amount of people from Wisconsin here.

New Mexico counts the same as California under the "hispanics from neighboring states" sub-category.

On another note, the medias geographic ignorance continues here. Apparently 4343 N. 7th Ave is "Downtown" even though its actually 2.5 miles North of the very Northern edge of Downtown (McDowell) and even more if you count the I-10 as the edge of Downtown like I do.

Its especially frustrating considering the nightclub that the article is about is in a well defined neighborhood, Melrose. Im sure the Melrose Neighborhood Assoc. and the 7th Ave Merchants association really don't appreciate their names not being used in the article and it instead being called "Downtown." I sent an email to the articles author, I tried to be polite but it makes me crazy.

Does anyone have any smart ideas on what can be done about this sort of thing? Maybe its not worth worrying about it, but it seems important to me. How can we expect Downtown, Melrose, or any 'hood to grow a good reputation if no one knows where they are? Maybe the city should send out emails/maps to the Republic and New Times...I dunno but it makes me feel like Im banging my head against a wall.

I'm Brandon. 25. Originally from Los Angeles (born and raised) but moved here to Tucson a year ago. This is my second stint in Arizona (in 2004, I worked at the Best Western Grand Canyon Squire Inn for 4 months). I love techno music, food at coffee shops, and Marlboro Smooths. Arizonans can't drive for shit and I really miss the ocean. And grass.

And I have a very strong crush on Sam Sparro.

so wait, if you can't drive for shit, and you're from somewhere else, then that doesn't mean Arizonians can't drive.

Here in Tucson (I don't know how it is in Phoenix), you can always tell who is a native of Arizona and who isn't because the non natives ALWAYS say that Arizonans can't drive.

Whos more attracted to tools, gay men or women?

Also are John, HX Guy, Silverbear and myself the only heterosexuals in the SW section? Not that I particularly care about it one way or the other, but its interesting to me that this 'hobby'/interest is so much more participated in by gay men, I wonder what leads to that.

I think I'm more curious why one of my favorite hobbies is shared by mainly gay men...

and FWIW I agree, that guy is a tool. It'd be fun to watch him cry after taking his 80's Indian quilt hat away.

I think the whole 'gay guys obsession with skyscrapers' thing was started with the LANDMARK Swiss Re. I personally think it's ugly but the gays I'm pretty sure that when they see this building they think, 'Oh the possibilities.'

And no insulting Sam. He's actually a very good singer.

^Whew I sure am glad I only share architecture/urbanism hobby with gays and not their music choice, that shit is awful. Reminds me of the stuff I had to hear in all the gay clubs along 7th Ave on a MTV show I worked on, ick.

I also think the gay communities interest in this topic likely goes back much further than that particular building. I also dont think its something as silly or simple as the buildings being phallic. I suspect its more to do with gay men generally being more aesthetically inclined, thus interested in how cities look and work. Further since many of them don't have kids they can perhaps channel their energies towards raising a city instead of a child.

But really I dont know and I probably just inadvertently said something wildly offensive.

EDIT: VV Bacon and pastrami are delicious, whats your point?

It bleeds every month and it looks like pastrami strips. Bacon even. Which is exactly why I stay from the stuff.

Hoover, I'm sure you just didn't think about all of the rest of the SW forumers, but put me in the hetero column... unless you thought I was gay too (?).

I too enjoy bacon and pastrami over hot dogs and bananas.

Well if this is the case than thank God I'm never going to be a father. I have Sim City 4 and many times have I made a nice, mid sized city only to not like what I 've done and obliterate it.

I was just going with people who I knew were confirmed lady lovers. I have a TERRIBLE memory and didnt recall if guys like yourself, Gymrat, etc have ever mentioned anything one way or the other on the topic. Obviously Johns straight, I know I am, HX Guy just showed us wedding pictures with a pretty gal in them and I recall Silverbear saying he's married..so thats all I could be sure of.

I know this for sure, the regular SW posters are 100% male.

hot dogs are made of lips and buttholes. when making the comparison of peni to hot dogs, I think thats disgusting.

Pastrami sandwiches are delicious and bacon is the best.
