IMO this tower looks fantastic. Also 5 Manhattan West. It has new life in it. Almost doesn't seem as demo worthy compared to 5 years ago.

I have such high hopes for the centerpiece Manhattan West towers. Then I look at this gigantic piece of trash and it makes those hopes crash to earth.

This one isn't going to be the dominant tower and the two taller/bigger tower will IMO be far more beautiful.

Pico - I'm not sure there is a centerpiece at Manhattan West towers . . ? . .
But I do wonder . . which all-glass tower will be the straw . .
that breaks the camel's back . . The day will come . .
How long will it take before the style of all these glass buildings looks dated . .

People will say . . "Eww . . I don't want to go to that neighborhood . .
The vibe seems so inhospitable . . all those severe corporate glass buildings . .
Who needs all of that harsh reflective soullessness . .

the brick of NYC project buildings is downright cozy by comparison . .
(minus the danger & the ugly cinderblock & florescent hallways) . .
One Vanderbilt's glass will certainly be refreshing though. .
amidst the masonry of the Grand Central district . .
'til they get rid of it all . .

This complex (MW) isn't really designed to be a new focal point or a city within a city like the HY complex is. Its main purpose is to maximize the amount of space and add much needed space to feed the cities desire for more office space.

The same could be said with the HY district, but, it serves as a model for an area that until a few years ago was blight, desolate, and is a further extension of Midtown West. The HY district also aims to be an area in which proxy towers will rise, further making the area a catalyst for future growth. And that's happening right now as we speak. Within the proxies, outside of what is deemed the perimeter for Phase 1 and Phase II, numerous residential and mixed used towers are either rising or planned. If anything, like the WTC complex, it serves to revitalize the area and its implications reach much further into the surrounding neighborhoods. All being in a positive way.

Some nodes to keep in mind are in LIC, where large projects, notably ones by Tishman, will redefine the area, garner it more prestige, and with that, more will follow.

Great shots. This one has to be close to topping out, no?

^ It should be. In the absence of the other towers, this one is more imposing in person than I would have thought. Together with the Coach tower, they form a dominating and looming presence over the area. BUT, these are the "smaller" towers, which I always remind myself to get an appreciation of the coming scale, in both number and size.
