Philadelphia, Houston, LA, San Fran, NYC (of course), Miami, Jersey City (potentially) - all have 1,000 footers on the way.
Like you said, our planners are afraid of height. But also developers, they cater to investors, so our 78 storey Aura or 75 storey 1 Bloor (even 80+ storey Holt Tower) could very well be 1,000 footers - but the developers are building shoebox units with standard ceiling heights. If these towers all had, say 9 foot-10 foot standard ceilings, I am sure we'd see more 1,000 footers.
