^ no eartquakes but it is vunerable to hurricanes....Miami has one of the strongest & toughest building codes in the nation since 1992 when Hurricane Andrew did a lot of damage.

I updated the list on the first page by the way. I added the Omni buildings and a few other smaller new ones and downsized Flatiron. Does anyone know if the new slightly shorter Met3 height is official? and what it officially is?

Plus we were hit by two hurricanes last year and it looks to me like the buildings are still standing (though the ESP does still have some window damage in that pic).

WHH47 of SSP says 828'. Chuck of SSC still insists 866'.

By the way, I've also started adding renderings to the buildings on the list on the first page. But its going to take a while...to say the least.

15 residential projects rise in Biscayne Corridor

Asked to discuss just the residential development of the Biscayne Corridor, Dana Nottingham demurs.
"It's very difficult to talk about it from one standpoint," says Mr. Nottingham, executive director of the Miami Downtown Development Authority. "The number-one priority in developing the downtown strategy as a premiere place to live, work and play is the mix of uses."
Mr. Nottingham estimates 30,000 residents will inhabit towers under construction in the one-mile area, but then, he says, the area will also bring millions of shoppers and 100,000 workers pouring in.
"Our whole strategy is to enhance and make this a signature area. It's where people will live and also spend their leisure time, in terms of going to the performing arts, entertainment and retail shops," he said.
"The Biscayne Boulevard experience will be completely transformed. All of those condos standing up like soldiers will also have access to cafés and services. The streets will be wider, people will be going to and from the park, the Performing Arts Center will be here. It will be completely different from anything you see right now, because the voids that we know of today will get filled in," he said. "It will be a premier residential street and a promenade on the world stage."
Residential projects under construction in the Biscayne Corridor, according to the development authority and the City of Miami, include:
• MarinaBlue at 888 Biscayne Blvd., with 516 units, 10,700 square feet of offices, 29,300 square feet of retail and 80 parking spaces, standing 57 stories.
• 900 Biscayne, 900 Biscayne Blvd., 516 units, 69,204 square feet of offices, 14,375 square feet of retail and 1,114 parking spaces, standing 63 stories.
• Ten Museum Park, 1040 Biscayne Blvd., 200 units, 12,840 square feet of offices, 8,390 square feet of retail and 346 parking spaces, standing 50 stories.
• Marquis, 1100 Biscayne Blvd., 305 units, 56 hotel rooms, 5,795 square feet of retail space and 525 parking spaces, standing 63 stories.
• Quantum on the Bay, 1900 N. Bayshore Drive, 750 units, 8,470 square feet of retail and 845 parking spaces, standing 48 stories.
• 1800 Club, 1800 N. Bayshore Drive, 468 units, 27,604 square feet of offices, 4,872 square feet of retail and 670 parking spaces, standing 40 stories.
• City 24, at 2347 Biscayne Blvd., 119 units, 19,171 square feet of retail and 233 parking spaces, standing 15 stories.
• Mondrian Miami, 333 NE 24th St., 176 units, 8,907 square feet of offices and 208 parking spaces, standing 18 stories.
• Paramount Bay, 2020 N. Bayshore Drive, 364 units, 26,465 square feet of retail and 660 parking spaces, standing 47 stories.
• New Wave, 725 NE 22nd St., 78 units and 90 parking spaces, standing 19 stories.
• Star Lofts, 704 NE 25th St., 55 units and 74 parking spaces, standing 23 stories.
• Onyx on the Bay, 655 NE 25th St., 118 units and 170 parking spaces, standing 27 stories.
• Platinum, 480 NE 30th St., 119 units and 195 parking spaces, standing 22 stories.
• Soleil, 3100 Biscayne Blvd., 288 units, 12,095 square feet of retail and 876 parking spaces, standing 41 floors.
• The Boulevard, 238-274 NE 34th St., 115 units, 13,233 square feet of retail and 196 parking spaces, standing 15 stories.

High-rise workers killed in fall
Three-foot layer of drying concrete also fell, trapped workers

Sunday, May 7, 2006; Posted: 11:47 a.m. EDT (15:47 GMT)

BAL HARBOUR, Florida (AP) -- A support frame collapsed at a high-rise construction project Saturday, killing three workers who became trapped in quick-drying concrete as co-workers dug to try to free them, authorities said.

The workers were on the 27th level of the building, pouring its concrete roof, when the supporting frame structure below them gave way, dropping them to the 26th floor, said Capt. Al Cruz of Miami-Dade Fire Rescue.

A 3-foot layer of hardening concrete completely encased one worker and partially buried the others, fire rescue officials said. The cause of the frame collapse was not immediately determined. (Co-worker: Victim trapped in concrete was screaming -- 1:40)

The identities of the three workers killed were not immediately known. A fourth worker was taken to a hospital with suspected heart trouble, authorities said.

A message left for the construction company Boran Craig Barber Engel Construction Co., of Naples, was not immediately returned.

Police identified the building project as One Bal Harbour. It is to be a 26-story condominium with an adjoining hotel, according to the Web site for Bonita Springs-based developer WCI Communities Inc.

"Today's event was very unfortunate and our thoughts are with the families of those who were involved," the company said in a statement released to The Miami Herald. "We take great care to ensure the safety of construction crews, but at this time we have no information about what may have occurred."

The building had passed all inspections, said Dan Nieda of Bal Harbour's building department.

Bal Harbour, just north of Miami Beach, is known for its tall hotels and high-end shopping.

^yes , it's called one bal harbour ....im asking if/when "jade ocean" in SUNNY ISLES BEACH will start construction

Probably not for a while. Jade Beach is the first Phase and they just built a multi-multi million dollar sales center for the two projects on the site of Jade Ocean. My guess is they will start Jade Ocean in a few years when Jade Beach is completed.
