Agreed. It's going to be an amazing spectacle on Saturday, a lot is planned & much will be revealed in the next few days. Gonna be very emotional for me as my Dad passed away this past April & some of my greatest memories with my Dad was going to that stadium with him ever since I was a young kid. Kinda like a second home. Things that I know are happening is a Snowbirds flyover, programmed LED armbands for all fans, many alumni, fireworks show, halftime show with singer Jess Moskaluke, pre & post game entertainment, & much much more.

I think it had more to do with the canopies and less to do with the stadium size making it seem smaller. Canopies really tightened the atmosphere IMO.

As long as they're not playing outdoor games in bloody baseball fields i'll be happy.

If you consult the writer's twitter feed, you will see that the entire rationale given for that conclusion is because it's a CFL stadium.

I guess in that Boston kid's mind, only a NFL or MLB stadium could ever hope to be "spectacular"

From an American point of view I am not sure Canada has a spectacular outdoor stadium when compared to U.S. stadiums that either have tremendous history or were built for a well known U.S. sports team. Maybe BC Place would come the closest. Just my opinion.

Does a stadium have to be well-known in order to be spectacular?

The Big House in Michigan isn't really spectacular, other than the fact that it's huge. But it's just a big round thingy architecturally.

Pretty much. If it's not hosting Superb Owls it's not worth our time.

For those curious, that stadium is the Estadio Municipal de Braga, home of Sporting Clube de Braga (Portuguese Primeira Liga). With a capacity of just over 30K it's hosted two Euro 2004 matches and four Portugal National Team matches (including two for World Cup qualifying).

It won the Chicago Athenaeum International Architecture Award in 2006. It's one of the neatest stadiums in the world, IMO. Up there with Paris-Bercy and Allianz Arena.

Just stating what I think their point of view is. Michigan Stadium is the largest stadium in the USA, is over 90 years old, sunken in the ground and hosts one of the biggest college football teams in America. Compare that to Winnipeg's stadium, which is completely unknown in the U.S., which hosts a CFL team and has little history. Pretty big difference in my opinion.

^^ Football in Ann Arbor and Winnipeg both started in 1879. That IGF hosts the Bombers instead of the Wolverines is only of less historical importance if one looks at things through a US lens.... something most Canadians are guilty of. The modern day Bombers (1930) are as old as the Detroit Lions. Only the Packers, Bears, Eagles, and Giants are older. Americans are very good at hyping their own, Canadians are very good at ignoring their own.

When US teams move into a new stadium it's instantly called a 'spectacular' new home. When Canadian teams do the same it doesn't count and one argues that it has no history. Double standard imo.

No it just needs to be American or known by Americans apparently. Americans can be extremely insular/provincial.

Basically what I got from him was "all I said about Winnipeg was that it's cold, Jets arent good and the stadium isn't nice" Where I basically said yes you said all those things in the most arrogant way possible and also belittled the city by saying maybe nobody cares because it's in Winnipeg" I also asked him in what world is IGF not a world class stadium? Where he replied "It's a cfl stadium"

This is where the CFL/Canada bashing started. Even some Toronto folks got into the action with their Americans friends.

I ended off with saying I was looking forward to his article on BMO feild and Torontos heritage classic

That was you? I read those tweets and his response and got very angry. Professional sports writers shouldn't belittle any professional league publicly. I guess we're allowed to call him a second-rate sports writer.

I guess we have an image of sports writers as being these distinguished Red Fisher, Stephen Brunt types when in reality someone contributing to a Fox Sports blog could be some shmoe earning beer money by writing blogposts for $20 a pop or whatever the actual number is.
