that "faux" is in reference to the airport "outlets"

Yes thanks theKB!! Was referring to the faux-historic-European look of the architecture of McArthurGlen Designer Outlets at YVR. My comment made no reference to the Maynard's Block.

With regards to the maynards block it's really too bad that the ugly signage and interior bland look was allowed considering the heritage aspect of that building. I guess Petsmart's fixturing sits in front of the original brick walls. I guess they were the only ones willing to pony up the cash on that location considering it's pretty heavy price tag.

It wil be interesting to see if it is a success. There are a lot of pets in that area but one can wonder if the people that live in that area are shopping at a Petsmart or hitting up a smaller, more local option like Tisol or just picking up natural/organic pet food when they shop for groceries at Whole foods.

The Shops at West have the following committed:

Quote:
On the street, the building is providing more than 43,000 square feet of retail space for shops and restaurants
that both Francl and Lok expect will enliven the neighbourhood. Committed to the building are
the popular Yaletown eatery The Flying Pig, Ami Quetzal Coffee, the Bank of Montreal, 123 Dentist, and Core Physio.

The website leasing plan isn't up to date - so I guess the coffe place and physio place are in the vacant spaces on the map below:

I honestly don't think any of the retailers and small cafes are actually successful in and around the OV. Outside of the desitination places (crap... i mean craft/legacy/tap and barrel and MAYBE these new restaurants) I can't see some of these places being profitable let along breaking even at 67 bucks a foot all in. That 3400sq-ft place is 20 grand a month in rent as an example and the traffic just is not there. I don't think the appartments are occupied to the extent as most would try to show in their sales pitches.

I believe that the Terra Breads OV location is one of if not their highest grossing locations!

Bone & Bowl does well... though this will likely be a trying time for them with Pet Smart. Time to support the little guys.

Anybody know what the heck Ami Quetzal Coffee is?

Looks like Sears Holdings is dumping most of it's shares in Sears Canada, taking their interests to around 12%, just also heard on CBC that the name 'Sears' in Canada and Sears Canada's rights to the name could now be in jeopardy. This should be interesting.

Shall we give them 6 months before the liquidation of assets begins?

Bone & Bowl is a really well put together shop, I hope they are doing well!

For Ami Quezal, frrom the references I can find it sounds like they are a roaster that is located a few blocks north in the industrial area.

If they lose the rights to the Sears name couldn't they technically use Eaton's
