I have a question, I looked on the front page for an answer but it seems a bit outdated. I recently booked a room downtown (for late September), but it took me FOREVER to find the room I needed since most were either booked already, too small, too expensive or the beds were ridiculous ( bay area hotels seem to be obsessed with full size beds) what are the hotel occupancy rates downtown ? and are there any more hotels currently in the planning stages or under construction ? I was surprised to see that a lot of the rooms were already booked, even nearly 2 months in advanced. A popular city like SF can absorb the extra hotel rooms even during the slow months.

You can find a place in the heart of the city and be among the locals instead of being holed up in Union Square.

^^^ That was my first option. But when you have a group of 6 guys, that option quickly became out of reach. So I was forced to get rooms

It happens, especially with smaller projects, but let's not lose sight of the forest for the trees. Most everything with a greenlight these days is getting financed, including the bigger projects. It wasn't that way as recently as 2011.

Park Tower will rise between Salesforce and 181 Fremont in my view as the Millennium Tower disappears.

Wow that is a serious tragedy! It's sunk that much already.. can this be seen near the base around the sidewalks? is the ground floor now a foot below ground level? Damn and this is one of my favorite towers in SF. And a 2" lean might not sound like much, but for a 650' tower, 2" every few years will really start to be noticeable. I hope they start drilling those piles into the bedrock, stat, and I hope the taxpayers do not have to pay for this!

If it keeps on tilting to the northwest, I'll be able to see it again. Seriously though, this is a terrible situation. I remember much discussion about its old fashioned heavy concrete construction in its thread; it took forever to build it because of that too.

A 2" rotation at 645' from the ground would tilt a horizontal floor plate at 1" level change per 322'-6". If I am not mistaken, that is a 1:3,870 slope ratio. I'm not sure if that would cause a glass marble roll on a hard polished floor, but I don't think anyone would otherwise notice.

As for the foundation settlement, I am hoping that it has now somewhat stabilized. Maybe it is something like stepping in wet sand or mud. You tend to sink down a little then stop. I am more concerned about earthquake affects. Is anyone here an expert on soils or structural foundations?

16 inches of vertical change seems great. Has anyone noticed any affect around the sidewalks and streets like stress cracks? The building height or distance measured for ground to top of structure is probably unchanged at 645'. I suspect more likely the ground elevation has lowered relative to sea level in and around the area. The building may be shorter relative to its surroundings rather than to itself.

It's extremely concerning that Millennium tower is sinking and tilting, the potential disaster that could happen when a large earthquake hits is frightening to think about, hopefully they get some world class engineers to correct the problem.
