Probably there to clear away the cobwebs before the first snowfall. Even inertia requires upkeep.

Some work being done on site today. Pouring concrete for the parkade ramp.

Also, it looks like brand new covering on top of the stairwells. I swear, if they're being sealed up for the upcoming winter...

That is 8 times the workforce they have been using on the Sandman out buy the airport. Pretty impressive actually what that guy can build.

I mean 5 years to build what a normal construction firm could build in one is no small feat.

There must be some serious tax write-offs with these properties. That's legit the only reason in my mind that makes sense as to why they're taking so long on Sandman and on TNS

24-120949 DP

220 Carlton St

Permit. Development Permit Application – Sutton Place Hotel – for a proposed 374,250.4 sq. ft. 27-storey hotel with a two-storey commercial and parking podium with skywalks connecting to the adjacent properties and an additional level of underground parking.

Issued 2024-10-07

"The permit has been issued. All applicable plan review processes have been completed."

From two weeks ago. Guess it makes sense why we're seeing a slight uptick in site activity.

One interesting tidbit here - the permit from october of 2019 identified 153,137 sq. ft of hotel space in tower 1, and 109,033 sq. ft of apartment space in tower 2. So the hotel portion of the project has actually more than doubled in square feet, at the expense of the apartment portion getting the axe.

Visiting teams cannot wait for this to get completed. They stay either at the Fairmont or the Delta and even though the Delta has been updated, you can tell it has dated bones.

Does that mean they'll stop whining that it gets cold here in the winter?

The Fairmont is a few years older than The Delta here & also in desperate need of upgrade/redo or a new build.

I imagine the RBC Convention Centre is delighted this is finally going forward as well. They will be connected to two hotels through the skywalks, which should have great appeal for presenters and attendees of various conventions. Might it make it easier for them convention centre to attract more business?

And the lack of an airport, apparently.

Something like that would be ideal.
Have not seen that render in 20 years.
It covers so much, housing, some extended hotel stays so appropriate for the area.
Even the design is still decent, perhaps a few adjustments.

That looks so dated it's swung back around the dial and become charming again. Y2K is back babey.

Does anyone know how the developers would solve the issue of covering the neighbouring building's windows? Is that just negotiated between landholders or is there policy and bureaucracy involved?

If that is the location I am thinking of there is a 8 or 10 foot gap from where the existing building ends and the proposed building could start. I wonder if the empty space is the remnants of the back lane and could be used as a sort of lightwell between them and new building.
