I hope you meant to say isn't.

The last thing I would want to see is gastown invaded by yaletown. It's bad enough that we are invaded by Surrey/Coquitlam/Abbotsford on Friday and Saturday nights.

Opps talk about a need to proofread. Yes I meant to say isn't. As far as I'm concerned Gastown>>>>Yaletown.

Concord took down a few of the horrible fences around their sales center (along the seawall and mews side) ... added in a few new brick foot paths and more importantly swapped over the external sales center #1 that was for THE UPTOWN ... over to ALEXANDRA ...

external sales center #2 is still empty ... maybe THE MET will pop in there soon ... would be my guess.

I know Jacqui Cohen was interested in moving over to the Woodwards site before it was redeveloped as the current store is less then ideal as far as layout goes.
Would be great if she could swing getting the vacant Concord Hasting site across the street and build a new Army and Navy along with housing (social/affordable/market) above. It would free up the existing site for development on Hastings and the restoration and potential addition to the Cordova heritage buildings.

There's no talk about any of this happening, was just walking by earlier this evening and thought it would be a good solution.

^ It would go without saying that at least the Cordova street facade of the Army and Navy building would be retained as it is well over 110 years old and may well have been built in 1889 if memory serves.

Why can't they at least give that building a coat of paint?

The crack-heads are going to love this. Right opposite Pigeon Park as well. From Salient:

Salient is brilliant at small to mid-sized infill projects that don't really arch the backs of DTES Housing Coalitions...

Salient might be the best in Canada at these, if not top couple... love their work.

Apparently Salient has sold 99 W.Pender to Kenstone Properties, so the current design floating around is likely dead.

It was probably overly ambitious anyway and I'm not sure Salient would've ever been able to carry it out. At least we will likely see movement on that site soon...

Good to know, my understanding is Hungerford was a partner at 99W Pender and that the properties were quite leveraged. Glad to see there will be movement there now. I beleive it's one of the special sites so it can go to 150ft.

Good to see it is likely moving forward but sad to see what is likely the final nail in the coffin of what I thought was quite a nice design.

Were the issues partnership-related?

No idea what the final issue was, just that the was very very little equity in the property.

The DTES is prime rib, man! I don't eat beef, but this area has got to bounce "forward" because it's a part of the evolution of Vancouver. It's one of the few 'hoods with real character and will continue to be "reclaimed" for that reason. It has nothing to do with a war against the poor or the drug addicts or the mentally challenged. It has to do with power and desire and beauty, which are pursued universally, by all of us.

I look at all those dilapidated buildings and I see wombs.... The only problem is Vancouver isn't worth it. The land prices are so inflated it's ridiculous! Good luck bettering Seattle's revitalization of it's Historical District.

I used to check the real estate boards for Van property every week. I quit after the riot.

It's complicated.

There was a crane truck in front of the lot south of Alto on Howe today, and a crane is up on that site now. Can't remember which project that is - lots going on in that neighborhood.
