Je viens d'apprendre que "gelée" a le sens "stoned".

Je pense que "il en fume du bon" n'a pas le traduction littéral.

As an Anglo who moved here 7 months ago I’ll take sole responsibility for this

For real though, my financial situation has definitely improved since last year. So far I’m quite content with my move to this province.

I guess people in France simply make a difference between hash and weed, whatever you call them.
There have been plenty of related slangs over the decades anyway.

Of course, the difference is that hash is cannabis resin, with a higher THC concentration.
It is normally stronger than marijuana (weed), depending on its quality.

Maybe it's just "la moquette", as in "il a fumé la moquette".

Or "de l'herbe. You pick the one you prefer.

"Marijuana" is not a term used in Europe. It's very North American. So it's unlikely to refer to marijuana. Except in the French West Indies, but it would be "de la marie-jeanne" over there I believe.

It worked for Jack Layton with a heavy anglo accent, and for someone like Brian Mulroney who had no anglo accent in French.

But oddly enough JT has a bit of trouble pulling it off.

To me JT sounds as though he was trained from a young age in public speaking in both English and French. He over-pronounces certain letters and especially the Ts in so many words in English. It sounds formal but not very natural.

In French you can really tell that he didn't use very much joual when growing up.

Mostly in Ottawa when he was youngest, spending most of his time with his mother when his father was Prime Minister. So primarily in English.

Then he moved to Montreal with his father when he was a teen, and went to the private francophone high school Collège Brébeuf, one of the most prestigious in Quebec.

I believe he then went to university in English, at McGill in Montreal and also UBC in Vancouver.
