Calgary takes on Columbus tonight. The Flames have been playing well, but these games always worry me. A game they should win based on recent play, and an opponent low in the standings..... should be a no-brainer right? it'll be interesting to see how the Hartley coached Flames handle these kind of games.

Interesting to note that Tim Erixon...the highly touted defensemen that didn't want to play for Calgary and went to New York instead, is now playing for Columbus

For the last few seasons, Calgary has always played down to Columbus' level when playing against them (and considering Columbus was 3-0-1 against the Flames last year, even lower than down to their level). That being said, the last three times the teams played each other last season, the games went to shootout - so perhaps saying that the played down to the Bluejackets level is correct.

I just hope that the Flames can play consistently like they have been playing the last few games.

If they come out and play like they did against Chicago and Detroit they should be okay. This is where I'm really anxious to see if Hartley's coaching will make a difference. For the last three seasons (or more) you could always count on the Flames to come out flat in sizzling hockey atmospheres like Atlanta, Columbus, Long Island and Florida, etc...

No Buff, no Bogosian... tonight could be problematic agains the Leafs. The Jest have however been good at home, posting a 3-1 record there thus far. If Pavelec doesn't let it in any muffins, and our D plays an ok game, we should get the job done. That said, Toronto has played harder then us this year to date, in my opinion.

What a fresh and original joke.

Your '67 thing just reinforces your originality and creativity as well. Let's see if your goalies can pull off a save percentage higher than .850 tonight (probably too far of a goal).

^ just need to hold the Leafs to 20 shots, while scoring 4 goals. Seems reasonable.

The fact that '67 gets funnier with every passing year, IS the joke. I'm surprised when I see how many people don't get that.

I think the rest of the country might be planning a 50th anniversary parade in 2017. See what I did there?

If it ain't broke, don't fix it (unlike the Leafs who have been broken for almost 50 years).

Ahaha what a cop out. Apparently you forget about the Gilmour and Sundin years when the Leafs made the conference finals 4 times in that time span with multiple Hall of Famers? Though I don't blame you for not remembering as you didn't even have a team in the 2000s that time period must be dark for a Winnipeg fan (if you were even born after 2000).

But really I guess you're right the 13 Stanley Cup 4 conference finals in 10 years Leafs stand no chance against the 4 total playoff game Atlantapeg ThrasherJets... What a history! I wish my team's entire history consisted of getting swept in the playoffs once.

The difference is, us Jets fans have always known and freely admitted to how crappy our team was and is. It's a point of pride with a lot of 'peggers. We don't have make ourselves feel better by pointing to shit that happened when our grandparents were teenagers - because we didn't even have a team back then!

Well, post-WHA anyway. In the WHA days they were arguably the best pro team in the world. Too bad the NHL gutted the team before we had a chance to find out.

Damnit, those days soon WILL BE the days of our grandfathers.

Ohs nos, insults from a Loafs fan. How will I ever get over that!

It's not a cop out; it's the truth. Your team has sucked for almost 50 years, and it's likely going to suck for 50 years. Our team is young and in the building process in a new market. I would rather have our core group of fellas than the hot garbage you have.

Nope, in my thirties. I just enjoy hating on the Leafs and their smug-ass, self-entitled fanbase. And the true definition of stupid is following a garbage team for 47 years with no hope of ever getting to the cup for at least another 47.

Just keeping up the Canadian tradition!

I wouldn't go that far. They were a dominant team in the WHA, but they were playing against teams that were nowhere even close to the NHL's level of skill. I think at best they would have finished somewhere in the middle of the NHL.

We'll never know, and I was far too young to understand at the time. But a lot of hockey pundits made claims to that effect. Outside of Toronto and Montreal anyway - perhaps it was just homerism combined with sour grapes. The Oilers were well on their way to their dynasty years before they joined the NHL, so it's not out of the realm of possibility. Given a few more years of the WHA (and some more "defections"), who knows what would have happened.

The crappy teams in the WHA though... yeah, there wasn't quite the competition to really vet out how good the Jets actually were.

I do wish we could see an alternate universe, where the WHA teams had another 2-3 years of European/American player dominance. And THEN merged into the NHL. And were allowed to keep their rosters intact. It would have been scary. But of course the Molsons and whatnot of the world would never have allowed that to happen.

OK, come on, but the way this is worded is pretty damned funny.

Quote:
Head coach Randy Carlyle returns to Winnipeg tonight when the Toronto Maple Leafs look for their first victory over his former team in the Manitoba capital in over 17 years.

Toronto's last victory in Winnipeg was on Nov. 1, 1995, when the Leafs downed the original Jets, who are now known as the Phoenix Coyotes.
