"In days of yore, mixed use was fairly common," said planner Rod Despain. "This is kind of a reemerging development concept."

An example of this is the roundabout in the BMW area. It will have a three-sided waterfall with a meandering stream on the fourth side. Accent lights will give the water a glow in the evening, according to Daniels.

On a positive note though Urbanboy,(and I am a proponent of many of your visions.) there is an amazing amount of attractive,densely packed, multi-storied condo's going up all around this immediate area. From State Street on the East to I-15 on the West. My niece and nephew-in-law just purchased one, and I was very impressed with the development and their unit in particular.

this is good news. I used to commute from PG to heber during the summers and that section of road was slow going. I also think it's great that they did some remediation work on little deer creek. I'll have to go check this out soon.

good.. about time. I grew up in Heber and there has been construction in that canyon for a long long time. Guess it's time to visit the folks and take a drive on the finished product!

Deseret Towers Update!

FYI: They have fences around four of the five remaining Deseret Towers buildings.

The only buildings they haven't fenced in are the Morris Center (although it's closed) and the tower which is on the south-east corner of the site.

From what I understand, some Heritage Halls kids had a meltdown in their kitchen, so they are living in some of the rooms in that tower for a few weeks while BYU repairs the damage.

The Deseret Towers swimming pool is gone, and to the south they are piling dirt from the Tanner Building Garage excavation site. I assume they'll probably use the dirt to help fill in the basements of the towers when all is said and done.

I wish I had a digital camera ... so far no demolition or implosion prep, but I'll let you know when I see more. I think they are trying to get an air variance for an implosion (and hopefully this time they'll fill out the paperwork correctly!)

"This is not something we're doing because we want to give a whole bunch of money to the Ashton Family Foundation," he said. "We want to get the county on the map as far as culture and arts go." White mentioned other construction throughout the county that will help people want to stay, such as commuter rail, the Xango remodel and the Provo Center for the Performing Arts. He said he hopes other opportunities will happen, like a regular venue for ballet, theater and symphony.

UVSC, (UVU) board OK's master's degree plan
