Downtown Boise benefits from being a destination with small blocks, narrow streets (except for the two major Connector streets of Front and Myrtle) excellent street engagement via retail (the lack of a downtown mall is a very good thing), restaurants, coffee houses, bars, wine bars, breweries, etc. The parking garages in the CBD generally include retail at street level.
Of course The parks; big parks, greenery, smaller pocket parks in the CBD, a river and greenbelt. There are nearly 200 acres of lush parkland within a 5 minute bike ride from the Statehouse, much more acreage along the Greenbelt on the way to other parks. It's cozy and historic and fresh. The historic neighborhoods adjacent really add to the overall vibe as well.
Add on Comment ~ Boise is a NW city and our downtown vibes more similarly to our peers in the NW. That makes a world of difference imo.
Cheers!
