This is the biggest crash Light Rail has had in the last 12 years of its operation.

Important to note they've all been caused by cars and not the drivers. I dont believe anyone has died in a light rail accident to date.

There was a homeless guy who died because he was sleeping between the cars overnight.

Wasn't someone pinned underneath a car and thusly killed near central station a few years ago?

Yeah, I think this may be the one you're thinking of:

https://www.azfamily.com/traffic/fam...1e0f080a4.html

And there was apparently another fatality in a light-rail-involved crash in Tempe just earlier this year, although the details of that one are more spotty as far as I know:

No, I don’t remember what happened in a few years ago. How did you know? I wasn’t aware of that.

Latest from Valley Metro is that there wasn't a car involved in the wreck. If true, will be interesting to see if this was equipment failure on the LRV or maybe a track switch malfunctioned?

Okay guys, I spoke with someone on the phone conversation. She told me 5 more Tempe Streetcar will be delivered later in a few months. Second Tempe Streetcar will be delivered in May 2021. They will shipped it out from Brookville, PA. I have a invitation to see new Streetcar. I can do photography. She will offer me to take a nice tour opportunity for me.

The size of the fleet is linked to the frequency of service, which still hasn't been announced. A six-car fleet could almost certainly support 15-minute headways, but I'm not sure about 10 or 5 minutes, especially if one or two cars are out of service at any time.

Nice! Hope they extended to State Farm stadium. Let see what happens. Lots of AZ Cardinals fans are going to the game. That's for sure.

I hesitate to post it because at this point it's basically a wish more than a plan, but Amtrak is proposing to bring service back to Phoenix as part of Biden's infrastructure plan.

One can hope!

Anecdotal side note:
In 1994, I actually moved from Ann Arbor to Phoenix on the Amtrak. I went back and forth several times on that route and was sad when they pulled out of the market. It's such an interesting way to see the country.

The tickets on Amtrak were just as expensive (if not more) than a plane ticket from Detroit to Phoenix, but since there was no weight limit, Amtrak only charged me $6 a box! Took forever to get it all at Phoenix Central Station but totally worth it.

If the goal is to modernize our infrastructure Amtrack high speed trains aren’t the answer. This is beyond disappointing for me.

I haven't been on an Amtrak for decades(DC to NY a few times), so this might be a dumb question, but what are the drawbacks now?

I just saw this video and they seem pretty cool. And honestly, this might be a great option for getting to Vegas or the LA area.

The map doesn't show proposed high-speed rail projects. It's a map of an enhanced network of conventional rail service. We've allowed ourselves to fall so far behind the rest of the world that we have to make ambitious plans just to bring regular intercity rail service up to minimum acceptable standards.
