Personally, I don't mind saying "downtown" even though most people drive slightly uphill to get there.

And I'm dubious that other English speaking countries call their city center's that. In England, they'll say the "High Street." Here we say downtown or Main Street. But I've never ever evere ever heard it called a CBD outside a corporate presentation. I may be wrong.

I noticed the Dunkin’ Donuts (former Burger King) on 200 s removed their sign. I wonder if they closed because of lack of business or if someone bought the property for other plans. If they just went out of business, it might not be a bad move for Carl’s junior to snag it up if they’re going to end up closing the state street location.

The local franchisee closed all 7 greater Salt Lake City area locations on July 5th.

I don't really like expensive fancy private clubs, but I understand that there is likely a big market for this in the city with the way our tech industry is growing. And I think in a year by the time this is ready to open, we'll have a vaccine and our mask-wearing and 6 ft. distancing days will be over.

I'm just happy to see that site finally developed after all these years, and that ugly side wall of the neighboring building hidden. Also, nice to be getting a classy structure added to the street engagement at that corner.

I think that the social club could also be used as a perk for some of the companies near by.

Some companies could offer memberships to their management teams, while others could use it as a recruitment piece to attract or even retain high value employees. I honestly could see Goldman using it as a recruitment tool, the same with some Tech Companies that are either already or looking to move/expand downtown.

Because of who the club is primarily marketed to, the IT and Finance crowd, I don't think the fees are overly expensive. The Gym at City Creek is $75 a month plus a $100 enrollment fee but they also offer corporate discounts, which I could see happen with this club as well.

I think it's fascinating to see the vitriol on Reddit/Facebook toward the Edison House project and even just the idea of some wealthy people having a downtown social club. You have people predicting its immediate failure with no evidence and you have people wishing that the city itself would prevent developments like this simply because it's exclusive and expensive. It's all weirdly emotional and political, imo.

I'm personally glad to see an empty lot developed even if I will never use or visit the facility myself. I do think it would have been better if there was a housing component and more density, but whatever.

Down with people in upper socioeconomic classes is the rage right now. Reddit is particularly full of class envy and hate. This is clearly a needed project and I would expect you’ll get other projects that cater to more middle class people.

I agree with all your comments about The Edison House. It's a sorely needed infill project, and a nice one. It's in a good location and I do believe there is a demand for it. I think it would have been better located directly to the east of Squatter's or on the old Zephyr Club site, though.

It's nice to have something to comment on other than the flag debate or uptown/downtown/cbd debate.

I just find it odd that a 3-story building has taken up as much space as it has on a forum dedicated to skyscrapers. I'm here to hear about large scale developments and have all the interest in the world in smaller, interesting, developments but once built I wouldn't even notice it if I'm driving past this particular building.

True, relative to my last comment, at least this discussion is actually regarding a development. I guess the COVID impact is now being more fully felt in the new project development world, I'm hoping things can quickly ramp back up as there was some great energy happening both in SLC and in my city as well.

There is actually quite a bit going on right now downtown. I'm surprised there hasn't been more posted on here the last few days. This is probably the most exciting time since I started following this thread back in the 00's. I'll try to take some pictures this week.

Locolife, You might want to hit a few pages over on the Compilation Thread. You'll find there's a ton of projects of all sizes going on in Salt Lake City proper right now. That thread is used as primarily an update of the many local projects. Many of the major metros actually use the Compilation section as their main discussion thread. Got it, thanks for the link, Phoenix discussions are mainly in the local section, I'm not even sure we have a compilation section lol.

I was in SLC recently and saw many cranes up, which is why I got interested and started to check-in on activity here. I always see tons of plans for buildings but more so am curious how many new 10+ story buildings are actually moving dirt for the first time in the last 4-8 weeks or about to based on permitting or crane bases being installed. We've seen new crane additions slow in Phoenix, I believe the total count around the metro is 20-25 right now but based on permit activity or other news we can dig up it's not looking like the pace will keep up later this year.

Curious what SLC is like, I'm originally from there but it's been a long time since I lived there. Is it looking like the blistering pace will keep up or do you think less high-rise cranes are up at the end of 2020 then now? Maybe crane count is more unique to what we like to look at in Phoenix but curious how SLC was stacking up. Glad to see the downtown area continue to thrive and grow up there.
