I agree whole heart-ed-ly, typo86......There's no such thing as a perfect world, but at least we keep working at improving the living conditions of others and ourselves.....and sometimes many are blind to that fact or just have a very childish or extremely cynical attitude towards life........The TP should not so much censor comments but use a little discretion when publishing them....

Just came back from the (closing) Home Depot on Carrollton.

Talked to a woman who worked there, she said what they were told was that Home Depot wanted to sign a 10-year lease extension but property owner told them somebody else was offering 3x the money. Said she thinks it will be either a Target or a dialysis clinic, though she agreed the Target makes more sense. FWIW

Taget makes sense and Home Depot was in fact kicked out. But ultimately while it was a convenient Hoem Depot for many they cant compete with the rents of a City Target.

I get that. I just don't want to have to drive miles for hardware so a housewife can shop at "Tarjay". Not that I'm bitter, or anything.

If it does end up being a Target, do you think they'll reuse, or build new?

A Target in the city has been long overdue if that is who's moving in. I wish that Target would have also built in Gentilly instead of Walmart. On that note, has there been any news on the development at S Claiborne and Louisiana? Last question, who the Whole Foods on N Broad offer what can be found in the current stores or is it more of a concept store?

Speaking with a few folks I know in Whole Foods Management my understandng is it is a new urban model that will focus more on fresh fruits and vegetables and their store brand products (365) and less on the high end items.

Yes it is a bit different but will carry most of their normal items but with an emphasis on locally sourced foods too.

As for Target I would imagine a renovation of the space but a demolition is possible ... Guess we will find out more when its announced.(assuming it happens)

I highly doubt it. That building is only 52000 sf. That's enough for a CityTarget, but the CityTarget concept is only intended for seriously high-density areas.

I'm guessing they will build a full-service Target on the urban model (store stacked above parking). They've built several in Chicago lately; most of them are around 140000 sf. The Chicago stores have all been modern but they've done things that are more traditional, too.

Azusa, CA (the giant portico screams NOLA to me)

1336 MAGAZINE ST., LOWER GARDEN DISTRICT

CityBusiness reports that Ted Swingle is redeveloping the two-story, 1850s-era building at 1336 Magazine St. into a mixed-use building with a 1,200 sf ground floor retail space and one- and two-bedroom apartments above. Plans call for five apartments ranging in size from 710 to 1,205 square feet with luxury amenities and some off-street parking. Swingle hopes to complete the renovation by the end of the year and have tenants in the apartments by early 2014.

Does anyone know what building this is? There are two on the corner of Melpomene and Mag. One painted brick red the other Green

It's the mint green one on the corner. I'm very happy about this project.

The red one is owned by some weird talent agent... She got a huge payout from the city after a city vehicle struck and damaged the side of the building. Unfortunately, she chose NOT to repair the damage and used the money for something else.

Still kinda underwhelming. There's more clothing than I was expecting, which is good. Not a lot of high-end names, though. I was hoping for something high-end but maybe the market just isn't there.

On the other hand, I may go there just for the Raising Canes.

More high end brands would've been nice. I suspect part of the problem is its proximity to Canal Place. With CP's high-end stores, it wouldn't make sense for those brands to allow outlet versions so close. As for Raising Canes, it might be cheaper (free parking) to go to the one on Claiborne/Toledano.

New Parking Garage at DDay Museum

will have 450 spaces and can accommodate another floor in the future. Also the other half of the lot is where the future hotel and meeting center will go.

I guess, but there are a lot of brands we don't have in New Orleans that peer cities do have (Orlando, Charleston, etc). I don't expect we're gonna build a decent shopping scene overnight, or that we'll ever have the same range as Atlanta or Houston. This is a good first step, though.

Riverwalk is only a short bike ride from my place, so parking's not a problem.
