They've got some pretty cool ideas, from a birdwatching overlook west of the west dam, to a rock climbing wall underneath the 202, to a boardwalk all along the north and south shores of the lake. If even a portion of the ideas came to fruition it would really add to what is already one of the better public spaces in the Valley.

What's interesting is that, unless I'm reading it wrong, one of the documents shows the streetcar going much further to the East and West along Rio than what we've seen. Obviously this all won't be accomplished at the same time, but I like to see Tempe thinking forward.

I also like that Pier 202 is still listed.

Tempe's monthly construction report is out for May, a lot of good things to note:

• Building permit issued for Broadstone at the Grand, the 9 story Grand office building and the related parking structure. When I rode the train by there today, work had finally started on the Broadstone apartments and work is continuing on the office building.
• Some townhome projects applied for building permits, including University Lofts at 800 W. University and Farmer Townhomes off Farmer
• Aldi applied for a building permit to build an Aldi grocery store and training center at 1715 E. Southern Ave.
• The Hilton Canopy on the final corner of the Union development applied for a building permit

Im excited to see the final piece of the Union Project get started. Unfortunately for residents, they will be living in a block wide construction zone surrounding the property for the next 2 years as the westin, collective, and mirabella move forward, including many others planned. Usually the "newest project on the block" fills up quickly as excitement grows. Exciting things coming along!!

Does anyone have status updates or new information on the following apartment/hotel projects:

1. Eastline Village on Apache Blvd
2. Collegiate housing development on Orange St and Terrace
3. Metro 101
4. Omni Hotel and conference center on University and Mill
5. Park Place on Terrace and Apache

Any information that Ive looked up online or the Tempe Development website is the same as months ago. Not sure if anyone here actively attends the neighborhood or city council meetings that would have recent updates or approvals for demolition permits etc.

As far as I know:

1. No movement for some time.

2. Had their neighborhood meeting last month. I didn't go, so no info there. I would expect to see them on a DRC agenda next month or so.

3. Technically phase 1 and phase 2 are still in review for a building permit, but work appears to be going full bore. I think we can expect the permit to issue this month and this one will be built.

4. My understanding is that it won't begin construction until Mirabella is done. Long timeline for this one.

5. In review for a building permit. I haven't seen any movement on the lot, but my guess is that we could see them working soon. I know you have to give 180 days notice before closing a mobile home park, and there are other requirements when redeveloping a mobile home park, so I wouldn't be surprised if that's part of the hold up.

Tempe to vote on 21-story apartment development

The Tempe City Council will vote Thursday on a proposed 21-story new apartment tower near Arizona State University and Mill Avenue’s bars and restaurants.

Chicago-based Core Spaces wants to develop the project called The Collective. It will have 269 apartments, 6,000 square feet of retail space and a parking garage, said Chad Matesi, a principal with Core Spaces.

It’s the latest in a number new apartments, other towers and new developments under construction or in the works near ASU.

The proposed Collective tower is at Myrtle Avenue an Seventh Street in downtown Tempe. It is near Mill Avenue and University Drive and replaces an old shuttered property. A number of other new developments are under construction or planned in downtown Tempe.

Core Spaces also has a development in Portland and has student-focused housing in Tucson and other college towns.

Matesi said Core Spaces is also planning to develop a new market-rate apartment in Tucson. He would not disclose the location of that planned project.

Matesi said if the Tempe council approves The Collective tower, construction will start in October with completion scheduled for 2020.

Core Spaces also owns some other nearby Tempe parcels.

There is another development in Tempe called The Collective on Baseline. That is near Baseline and Rural roads and is home Arizona’s second Alamo Drafthouse Cinema. It is not part of Core Space portfolio.

The new Alliance for American Football will land one of its teams in Phoenix. The team will play in Tempe at Sun Devil Stadium and will announce its coach on Friday.

Arizona State University announced Wednesday that an AAF team will begin playing at Sun Devil Stadium in February of 2019. The Valley's AAF franchise is currently known as Alliance Phoenix.

Lets see if this lasts longer than the XFL, still it will pump more money into our economy so I'm not going to complain.

Collective was *barely* approved, 4-3 vote. Gilbane project was approved unanimously. Haven't got a chance to watch the video for details on discussion, but I'm assuming a lot had to do with parking. I'm hopeful that the Collective can be built and be successful and act as a justification for future parking reductions.

Hayden Library Reinvention

The creation of new entrances on the main level uses the space more effectively. With the inclusion of updated technologies, the reinvention will provide classroom, collaboration and study space to promote student success.

The modifications include an increase to the building’s square footage, main level expansion, and full renovation of all five levels of the building’s tower portion.

The addition of welcoming environments, reinforced physical and visual connections on and in the building helps Hayden Library reposition itself to support students at the center of the Tempe campus.

Hayden renovations look incredible and nice pic Mr. RE. What stands out to me is the failure that is OneHundred Mill - those renderings were perfect. Fingers crossed that they can figure it out...
