In context, the view overlooking the park and buildings in Paris and the seascape in Pannama City, ferris wheel must've afforded some beautiful views while, in downtown Atlanta, you'll be looking AT the downtown skyline rather than OVER it.

I mean... that's why I thought it was short. It really can't be any higher unless they raise the center, which I would assume is pretty much impossible at this point. I think this is what we're getting boys.

The tabernacle is more like 6 stories the wheel it self should be complete today or tomorrow it did not look that tall to me at first but when I seen one of the construction workers on it I could tell it was nearly 200 feet tall

I think they will end up raising the base of the ferris wheel. For construction purposes when assembling the wheel, it was probably easier to assemble it lower to the ground. Once assembled, I'm thinking the base will get raisied, kind of like a tower crane. Be patient people.

That would have to be a huge base to get the wheel to 200 feet. I think what we see is what we're getting.

Some updates from Midtown Alliance on construction of bike/ped infrastructure:

Peachtree Streetscape Improvements: Southern End - This project started in May and will extend the Peachtree Streetscape "pallette" to the southern end of Midtown. Soon the stretch between 3rd and Pine Streets will be upgraded with new sidewalks, pavers, curbing and pedestrian lights. Select portions of overhead utility lines will also be relocated underground. Over the next two weeks, construction crews will be completing work on the east side of the street between 3rd Street and Ponce de Leon Avenue.

Peachtree Streetscape Improvements: Northern End – Now in its final phases, this project extends Peachtree streetscaping to the northern end of Midtown between Peachtree Circle and the I-85 Bridge. Over the next several weeks, construction crews will be finishing work near the Peachtree Street/Peachtree Circle intersection.

10th Street Cycle Track - The success of the recently-completed Atlanta BeltLine Eastside Trail has increased the already-high demand for bicycle facilities in Midtown. As a result, we have partnered with the City of Atlanta and the PATH Foundation to implement a dedicated two-way "cycle track" on 10th Street along Piedmont Park. The facility will connect cyclists between Midtown's core and the BeltLine as well as to future cycle tracks on Juniper Street and Piedmont Avenue. Phase 1 between Monroe Drive and Charles Allen Drive is scheduled to start construction the week of July 8th with an estimated 3-week construction period.

10th Streetscape (Williams Street to Piedmont Avenue) - The project includes installation of new sidewalks, street trees, pedestrian lighting, landscaped medians and handicap upgrades between Williams Street and Piedmont Avenue. Other improvements include a new signalized mid-block pedestrian crossing at the Midtown MARTA Station as well as burial of overhead power lines and poles between Peachtree and Juniper Streets. Construction crews will continue work on the north side of 10th between Peachtree and Juniper over the next several weeks.

Peachtree Overhead Utility Burial - After being hosted Downtown for several decades, the 33rd Annual Children's Christmas Parade will take place in Midtown for the first time this December. In anticipation of the event, we have been spearheading an effort to relocate underground all currently-overhead utility lines crossing Peachtree Street. Our team is currently working on crossings at 5th, 8th and 16th Streets.

My building downtown is 180 feet. The Ferris wheel is a bit taller; I can see it out my windows. So 200 feet is about right.

shivtim--what does "cycle track" mean and, specifically, how is the two-way track separated from traffic? Does this mean 10th is losing a traffic lane or the parking lane on the southside of the street? Thanks!

I want to retract my sour grapes about the wheel... The way it's framed behind COP, it really sells the city. Great shot, Echinati.

I reluctantly agree. I was just afraid it would look tacky as hell.

Cycle tracks are game changers. Incredible piece of infrastructure.

Awesome pic of the entire skyline, minus Sandy Springs, Galleria areas.
