NEW: Porter Airlines plans to launch two new U.S. routes:

• Montreal (YUL) to Los Angeles (LAX)
• Montreal (YUL) to San Francisco (SFO)

Flights will operate using its Embraer E195-E2 aircraft. This comes as Porter’s partner Air Transat removed sales for both of these routes.

Air Transat is dropping these routes that were summer seasonal.

I noticed TS pulled all their summer domestic transcons as well out of YUL. The PD flights launching this summer are well timed to connect to TS' atlantic flights.

I also suppose this doesn't preclude YOW from getting these routes as well. I wouldn't expect YOW-LAX/SFO to have TS codeshares.

Fairly certain it’s the same everywhere.

This was to be expected. Smart move by both of them. We discussed this very scenario back in November, when the tie-up was announced.

At least not until TS start flying transatlantic out of YOW. I'll believe it when I see it though.

Wonder where TS will redeploy the 321 capacity to as the transcons I believe were all non-LR routes?

Looks like TS' only remaining domestic routes are YQB-YUL and YYZ-YUL.

Well it was nice while it lasted. They served the route for three summer seasons. But there were signs of struggle. Last summer, they reduced it from 4x weekly to 3x weekly, albeit up-gauging it to the B789. I guess it still wasn’t enough to make it stick. With a tight widebody fleet, there’s better uses for that frame. Does this mean there is now a 3x weekly B789 slot unaccounted for in AC’s network, or the reshuffle has already been done?

Will be interesting to see if ever MS picks up the slack. Their costs are probably more suited for the intent of this route, mainly targeting the Egyptian diaspora in Montreal, which is lower yielding by nature.

Let’s see how this affects AM on their multiple daily flights from MEX to YUL, YVR and YYZ. I think reductions are more than likely.

The article says it won’t be as bad as the Harper era visa requirement, but that it will still affect 40% of Mexican travellers to Canada.
I'm showing AM MEX-YVR reduced to 2x daily as of April 2. Or was that always the case? I was under the impression they were 3x daily year round, no? (with a boost to 4x daily during Christmas/New Year)

Although it sucks losing Cairo (a beta city), gaining Seoul (an alpha city) more than makes up for it ! And there is still the odd chance MS picks up YUL in the future. The bilateral allows for 7x weekly flights, which were all used this winter season, but CAI-YYZ is going back down to 5x weekly in April. They can use those 2x weekly frequencies for YUL. Let's see what happens.

New third party lounge is now open in the transborder side at YUL. About time
Too. The US side was lacking lounges. Only the AC Maple Leaf lounge was available until now.

It’s a Desjardins Odyssey Lounge (operated by Plaza Premium Lounge). It’s a pretty small one, by looking at the pics, but it’s not like they had much room
to work with.

Calgary is the only airport in Canada that has a reasonable size multi-use trans-border lounge. Everyone else has extremely small lounges relative to the number of passengers. Even the ones in Toronto are far to small.

Looks to also provide access to AMEX Platinum members.

What is now missing is a Plaza Premium on the domestic concourse.

They look to only be loaded seasonally through the end of October at this point.

These are PD’s first two less-than-daily jet routes with SFO 3x and LAX 4x weekly. On top of that, the aircraft RONs in California allowing for connections to/from YHZ, YYZ and YTZ.

Wonder if they’ll take the same approach to add YOW-California later? Would allow for a bunch of connections over YOW.

That’s good Montreal YUL is getting a nonstop flight ✈️ to Seoul Incheon (ICN), South Korea on Air Canada for Summer 2024.

After WestJet announced Calgary YYC- ICN- YYC route ,3x weekly for S24 & operated by WS Boeing 787-9, in December 2023 from Canada’s 4th busiest airport .

I thought YUL would eventually get a ICN route on AC✅.

Japan’s Zipair starts up the Tokyo - Vancouver YVR Canada today. It will be an interesting competition between Air Canada, Japan Air, All Nippon Airways & also Zipair on this flight ✈️ route.
