I took that to mean at the latest - as in some will start far sooner. There is though, also the reality that about half of the bridges in the province need replacement or refurbishing. Over the next couple years, the focus will switch from highways to bridges, as can be seen in the fall advertising schedule.

2022?! What are they doing with the additional $250 million in tax revenue accrued from the 1% tax increase in the PST? Oh wait, that's a silly question. Adding more public jobs to our already bloated provincial government!

Riverman, why do you not care who is elected for the next provincial election? Is it because you only live in Manitoba part time?

Actually, if you were to look, you'd see that the highways budget alone had increased by that much since the increase in the PST. There are still many old roads and bridges that need replacement. The highways have overall gotten much better. The bridges are now the focus as they're in worse shape than the Canadian average.

Think River will say au revoir to this province a trend that will grow increasingly popular as the boomers retire and realize that it is actually cheaper to live elsewhere.

MIT is working first on the re-development if you will of the south perimeter hwy. I described this previously as the construction of new lanes to create a wider safer median (Interstate Standards). This is proposed to start in 2018-2019 or near the completion of 59 & 101 N.....so interchange construction around 2022 makes sense timeline wise.

I don't agree with this timeline because I hate to be disrupted twice by construction detours but in my experience that is exactly how government works.

You got it Skyler. I have been told it may be happening a lot sooner than I thought it would too.

Now if only the TSX would keep doing what it did yesterday.

He says the aim is to ensure traffic flows freely and to help truck drivers get from the U.S. to the Centreport shipping terminals without being tied up in traffic.

The work will cost up to $800 million and the government says construction will be well underway by 2022.

It's part of the government's plan announced in Monday's throne speech to boost spending on infrastructure and help the economy.

The announcement comes five months before a provincial election, with the NDP government trailing in opinion polls.

are you guys[..mod..] the government has so many different infrastructure projects in the works this is one of MANY Im talking 100 billion dollars worth... this city is not going to be the Winnipeg u once knew Im telling you know... most people who enjoy the small city life brace yourself for the next 15 years. The construction on these projects will be started by 2018 and probably complete 2025

Too soon to tell. NDP was as low as 35 in polls within a year of the last election and ended up at 46% of the popular vote. PC's will always get 40-43 % of the popular vote, but they need to win a good number of seats in the city to form government.

The Roblin interchange rebuild is adding retaining walls under the bridge spans. Also from the speed of construction it appears the bridge spans are being poured someplace else and lifted into place. It looks like the east bound span will be completed shortly.

Hwy 59 at Perim. Hwy.

Highway 101 Detour in effect

Posted: November 26, 2015

Traffic on Highway 101 is now being rerouted due to the construction on a new interchange at Highways 59 and 101 (North Perimeter Highway). This may cause travel delays, particularly during peak travel times in the morning and evening rush hour. Parts of Sperring Avenue are now temporarily closed, as this road is required for the Highway 101 detour.

EASTBOUND HIGHWAY 101

This detour will be in effect within a week.

There will only be one eastbound lane on Highway 101 east of Henderson Highway. Traffic will be rerouted on to a non-divided highway detour adjacent to Sperring Avenue. This may cause travel delays during peak times. Reduced speed limits will be in effect. Speed fines double in a construction zone.

If approaching from west of the Red River, one alternate route for local traffic is to take the Henderson Highway northbound exit and use Henderson Highway to reach the community. If approaching East St. Paul from Highway 59, Birds Hill Road and Pritchard Farm Road will remain open during this phase of construction.

For traffic heading on to Highway 59 north from Highway 101, stay on Highway 101 and use the detour.

CLICK HERE for a map of the detour.

WESTBOUND HIGHWAY 101

Detours are now in effect.

Traffic can still access Highway 101 either via the traffic lights north of the overpass or from the north using the existing exit. However, once on Highway 101, the two westbound lanes of traffic will then be rerouted at Raleigh Street to the detour adjacent to Sperring Avenue. This detour will not be a divided highway, and there will be two-way traffic on this section of road. Reduced speed limits will be in effect. Speed fines double in a construction zone. The detour ends before Henderson Highway.

CLICK HERE for a map of the Highway 101 detour.

Ah, so that's what they were doing on the north service road of 101. I thought there were just rebuilding it. The detour and closure of the ramps/bridge, etc right at Lag have been in place for a month or so now.

On the East St Paul website, as part of the 101/59N interchange information boards, they show a reconfiguration of the ramp at Henderson, not part of this project. The boards are slightly different that others previously shown. Can be found here:

Heres a list of activities over the next year for the project.

^ planning stages, no timelines. I wouldn't hold my breath. It could be over a decade from opening.

It said that it would begin in the next 5 years (as soon as 2) and take 10 years to complete at a cost of approx $400M. We're still more than a decade out even if we get rolling now.

One more percentage point added to the PST, two more and we can get a Perimiter Highway, Bishop Grandin and Lagimodiere with no traffic lights, ha ha ha
