^ Montreal has one of those and you have to pay to access it. The lack of access to the water is a big turn off for me. Is this one free?

The nicest beaches I have seen in Canada are in the maritimes. Specially Prince Edward Island. PEI is awesome in the summer. If you have never been there I highly recommend it. They have the best beaches, best lobster and potatoes.

Not a beach per say, but the NCC will soon be providing a new swimming spot on the Ottawa River, as part of the rehabilitation of a historic Ottawa River Boathouse (1914-1925).

https://twitter.com/NCC_CCN/status/1649064921978613760

This swimming area closes a gap between Britannia and Westboro Beaches in the west (14km and 10km away as the crow flies) and Petrie Island Beach in the east (16.5 km away as the crow flies).

More info and renderings of the revitalized Boathouse:

Yeah, this is like basically a regular park you walk up to. I didn't know you had to pay for that one in Montreal. I considered checking that out in 2017 but didn't end up going.

This one is named Sugar because of the Redpath sugar plant.

The issue of reaching Sugar Beach from Union Station will not be an issue with the planned Waterfront LRT. In fact, should be able to reach Cherry Beach too.

Good to know.

My neighbour only goes into the office once a week. It's a dilemma for many suburban people. LCBO's office down there too. Lots of companies located outside the DT core and you have to wonder if it's worth the extra trek after getting off at Union.

Sugar Beach is a 14 minute walk from the office and my last office. Since March 2021 I could have gone for a walk down there but never did. I barely walk to Queen's Quay even though it's about 5 minutes.

I've also never been to Cherry Beach. If there was LRT then I'd consider going in the middle of the workday for $3.50 or whatever it is.

Have you tried the Longueuil side?
Or Brossard, for that matter.

For Vancouver, English Bay is unique and great looking beach in an urban setting, but Kits was more my vibe and a beach experience.

Cox Bay is just otherworldly. Just need a wetsuit.

Cherry Beach had a gay cruising reputation for a long time. A lot of night rave parties too since there’s no residential nearby. Seems pretty much dog walkers and people sneaking a little quiet beach time from work during the day.

Not sure what’s on the Longueuil side in terms of beaches to be honest, although I’ve been to the marina there once.

I haven't been to Cherry Beach since my raver days ... c.1993-1999. It's hard to believe the Dr Trance Show on Energy 108 began 30 years ago. I last saw him DJ on a fake Pride Beach summer 2011.

I was surprised how nice Ottawa's beaches are. If I spoke French, I'd move somewhere within the OV/Ottawa area. Love the access to "exotic" Quebec.

Looks nice.

Haven't been to Neys, but I stopped at a bunch of other places (and did lots of swimming) around Lake Superior on my cross-country drive last summer - Pukaskwa, Old Woman Bay, Agawa Bay, etc. One of the most beautiful parts of the country, for sure.

As far as the water goes, the eastern shore of Superior was very swimmable - lots of shallow, protected bays that keep it warm. The north shore is much colder though.

San Josef on Vancouver Island looks pretty exotic.

What was the warmest water that you came across when swimming in Lake Superior?

Yeah, pretty cool place. Water's a bit too cold for swimming though. Couple pics from when I was there a few years ago:

References to Cherry Beach always make me think of this song... from my youth:

And re: Lake Superior beaches and shores... it's a trek I've yet to make, but one that's at the top of my list! Within Ontario I've been as far as the Soo, but not beyond.

Apparently it made top 50 beaches in the world in one publication. The only Canadian entry.

Lindeman Lake looks beautiful as well.

Christina Lake near me isn't famous for any beaches but has some and the water averages at 22C in the summer.
