^^Weirdly enough, I don't think I've ever noticed that tall (for vancouver) office building to the right of centre.

Or, right of centre would be the Canaccord building? It is pretty generic.

Nice shot - must have been taken early morning to get the sun from the northwest like that.

Yea that's the one i meant. It's surprisingly tall for a non-descript office building in Vancouver... it's in the same height range as well-known towers like HSBC, cathedral place or the McMillan-blodel building. Most of our generic boxes are pretty short in comparison.

Its part of Pacific Centre, and same general design pattern as TD Tower (700 West Georgia) and the former IBM Tower (701 West Georgia). Its just in tan instead of black. Canaccord tower was built about ten years after the two Georgia Street towers.

Apparently, it was supposed to be 38 storeys (and the same colour as TD Tower and the former IBM Tower (701).
Original plans were for it to be occupied by a new BC Tel headquarters, but they decided to build the Boot instead. The tower was shortened became the Stock Exchange Tower for many years and the light colour is because of the outcry over the dark colour of TD Tower and IBM Tower (the Four Seasons was also supposed to be dark too, but it was also changed).

I remember having the exact same revelation about that building years ago standing at it's base.

I guess because it is just so nondescript and blends in so well, no one ever notices it.

Now back to the topic......

Yeppers. What you are all referring to is the former Vancouver Stock Exchange tower. (Forbes Magazine onced described the VSE as something "polluting and fouling" the financial world.) .....

We'll know for sure if we're truly a World Class City when our stock exchange is listed in major newspapers alongside Sydney, Toronto, Frankfurt (DAX), Paris (CAC-40), FTSE, NASDAQ ..........

By the way, do we still have a stock echange??

I tried counting, and it seems to be at 16. That's only a third of the way up! (48 floors total). This one is going to be impressive when finished, I think.

Wow.
It is really exciting to see this one go up for me; almost moreso than the than the anticipation swirling around 1133 W. Georgia. I used to walk by the former parkade on this site YEARS ago, when the intitial rezoning board was up...

Overall, the building is definitely going to make an impact among the mid-sized buildings that surround it.

I like the glazing near the base thus far, but am waiting anxiously to see what the rest of the tower looks like (aren't we all?).

Will keep watching from afar.

It actually looks as though they are pouring the 24th or 25th floor, by my count. Floors 2-12 office, and looks like they are on the 12th residential floor, give or take.

I belive some years ago the VSE rolled in with the Alberta exchange, and then those both rolled into what is now the TSX -V...i think.
