Yeah I recall that service. I honestly believe for the route to be a success and stick it needs to be Alaska though.

Looks like we landed daily nonstop service on Southwest to Burbank starting June 4, 2024.

Heres KSAT's story, we were JUST talking about this... I can tell you this is a MUCH better option than LAX if you aren't connecting through. I can see this one doing well purely for the fact that people will just want to avoid LAX like the plague. 45 destinations y'all... not long before SAT hits 50 at this rate!

Yeah was just around a week or two ago huh? Glad we finally got a secondary LA airport. I was hoping we might have seen a new seasonal add as well, but I'll take what I can get.

Burbank is good location wise not to mention rather hassle-free. Glad we got it over Long Beach or Ontario.

I'm very happy with all the adds as of late! 5 new destinations in around the past month or so. 3 International and 2 Domestic along with Spirit adding service to Newark. Definitely some real momentum going on at SAT compared to normal.

I live practically underneath the flight path for aircraft on approach and it's definitely more busy.

Solid numbers. 10Mil is all but guaranteed at this point. (*knocks on wood*) I'm going to take a bet that 2023 ends up closer to 10.5 Million.

Spirit Airlines Adds Seventh Destination from San Antonio International Airport: Tampa

San Antonio (November 9, 2023) — In 2024, there will be a new way to get to Florida from San Antonio International Airport (SAT). Spirit Airlines announced it is launching nonstop service from SAT to Tampa International Airport (TPA) beginning on January 11. It’s the seventh destination Spirit has added since it began service from the Alamo City in November 2022. Spirit already flies to two other cities in the Sunshine State: Fort Lauderdale and Orlando.

Here’s what to know about the Ultra-Low-Cost Carrier’s latest nonstop service to Tampa:
• It will operate four times weekly (Mondays, Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays)
• The airline will begin with seasonal service through April 5
• Tickets are already on sale

“We know our travelers will use this new service to Tampa,” said Jesus Saenz, Director of Airports, San Antonio Airport System (SAAS). “Once Spirit sees that, the goal is to expand it to daily service that’s offered year-round. Their presence in our market is giving families even more options and opportunities to take that vacation they might have been putting off. The competitive fares are also attracting people across the United States to check out San Antonio.”

Last month, Spirit announced daily, year-round service to Newark, New Jersey, will start on April 5.

This announcement brings Spirit to seven destinations served from SAT. They include:

• Baltimore
• Fort Lauderdale
• Las Vegas
• Los Angeles
• Newark
• Orlando
• Tampa

For more information on all of SAT’s 45 nonstop destinations, please visit the airport’s website.

Apparently they have some free planes now that they dumped the remainder of their Denver routes. Seems like they are seeing some demand in SA... quite the ramp up of routes for an airline that just (re)started flying from SA last year!

And we'll charge you $4.00 for 8 ounces of water. That's a bargain at 50¢ per ounce!

Not sure if it's seasonal, but Aeromexico is upgauging from their regional Aeromexico Connect E190s to mainline Aeromexico 737-800s effective 20 June. AUS gets the love as well for the same thing.

San Antonio International Airport Shares Construction Update on New Terminal

Tonya Hope, Public Relations Manager
San Antonio International Airport

SAN ANTONIO (November 29, 2023) — At today’s briefing session to City Council, San Antonio International Airport (SAT) leaders provided an update regarding the Terminal Development Program (TDP) and the Post-Solicitation Briefing for the Construction Manager at Risk (CMAR).

SAT selected Hensel Phelps, known for its general contract and construction work for the planning, building and management of landmark buildings to serve as CMAR.

“We were thrilled with the quality of the proposals the Airport received" City Manager Erik Walsh said. "Hensel Phelps is the nation’s largest aviation contractor and has developed some of the best terminal projects in the country, including Nashville, Seattle, Los Angeles, Tampa and Orlando. Hensel Phelps will work closely with our Master Architect team of Corgan/Lake Flato to advance the design of the new terminal."

“We chose the Construction Manager at Risk delivery method,” Walsh added, “to minimize risk to the City and Airport and maximize opportunities for small, local and disadvantaged business enterprises (DBEs) to participate in the project. Hensel Phelps will be required to bid out approximately 85 percent of the work, which creates a lot of potential bites at the apple for other firms.”

The new terminal facility project scope includes:

• 17-gate concourse and apron with a new Federal Inspection Service area
• Expansion of elevated roadway
• Central utility plant enhancements
• Multi-story ground transportation center, including additional parking
• North ramp parking for aircraft remaining overnight.
• Related demolition/preparation site work
• Improvements to utilities

“This year has been beyond incredible for SAT,“ said Jesus Saenz, Director of Airports, San Antonio Airport System (SAAS). “From new nonstops taking us to 45 domestic and 8 international destinations – and more travelers than ever choosing SAT – we are making history every single day. As we start 2024, we’ll enter the pre-construction phase – right on track as we expand our airport for everyone in San Antonio and our visitors from around the world.”
The TDP will create jobs locally and will be completed in mid-2028.

“Our emphasis is on engaging local businesses, fostering growth in our community and maximizing our economic impact right here in San Antonio,” Walsh said.

For more information, please visit the airport’s website.

I know this article is focused on the new terminal, but has there been any updates on the runway extension?

Will that be more of a priority when the new terminal (with wider spaces for larger planes) is closer to completion?

I flew out of Terminal B from SAT to Boston yesterday. There is ONE restaurant. A few fast food joints, but only one restaurant.

** That is the end of my report. **

Holy Crap... October came within striking distance of 1MM.... INSANE. Numbers I definitely didn't expect to see. This continues to show in my opinion that SAT, when given the chance with more options and up-gauged capacity... it gets used.
