Kent or Cavendish would be the most likely namesakes in such an event, i'd assume.

While the beer companies would be a no brainer, with the Irving Wildcats playing there, it's gotta be an Irving name on the building. But if the city was smart, they'd make sure JD pays through the teeth to get those rights.

Likely the beer companies will instead get an exclusivity deal for concessions inside instead.

Re: event centre
My facebook has been littered with negativity for 21 million provincial funding against the event centre in general. I would like to voice my opinion to all my 700ish N.B. facebookers.

I need if possible full summary of pros and cons for this centre
example: tax benefits to Moncton and province , spin off development of the centre, job creations, lasting impacts, other developments that the province provided that generated taxes example: the money made by the Moncton stadium 2010. A lot of people are saying this money should be spent in other areas.
Why the centre should be a main focus for the province that this centre can create jobs, tax revenue, tourism etc.
they complain money should be spent on roads. how much money would that bring to the province in long term DAH
I plan to post this to show non believers or the people that are undecided and people that are for it, it will show them the aspect of this entire project
thanks

People in this province are so negative! They see a bumpy road and say this should be repaved. They see the coliseum and say well there already is a venue. They can see the intangible, ie the hundreds of events that have skipped the area due to out of date facilities. I gaurentee that events like Kiss, Elton John, Metallica, Iron Maiden, Rush, Circue Du Solie among others, would have made their way to Moncton already.

The ones that complain are probably the ones that are complaining that we do not ever have any events in the city and the area.

Fittingly, an opinion piece from Brent Mazerolle at the T&T:

[...] this Riverview taxpayer will say publicly right here that I would be ready to have a few bucks added to my taxes to contribute to the creation of a gathering place in Moncton’s downtown. This, because I believe it will become part of many of the most compelling experiences we will share as a larger community, for generations to come.

Sorry Riverview. Sorry Dieppe. Moncton’s downtown is southeastern New Brunswick’s downtown. Whether you like it or not, that is how the past couple centuries of European settlement have played out in our tiny corner of the world.

HERE HERE!

I agree wholeheartedly...all 3 communities and the whole province will benefit, the financial load should be shared.

Moncton: 30%
Dieppe: 12%
Riverview: 8% (smaller tax base)
NB: 25%
Canada: 25%

Thats a 50/50 split between local and upper government.

Does city council plan on releasing both proposals to the public and then voting for one of them or will the decision be done behind closed doors and later revealed? I hope we'll get to see proposals from both Ellis Don and Bird.

How does such a process usually work?

You will only see the winning bid.

That is correct. You don't get to check out the proposal that lost.

The new "drop dead" deadline for the project is September 20th. All the T's gave to be crossed and the I's dotted by then for things to proceed.

So, by the 20th of September we need:
- the remainder of the federal in-kind funding.
- final selection and approval of the preferred proponent and the design
- all contracts signed.

It's going to be quite a roller coaster ride.......

My confidence is no higher than before the provincial funding came along. It been a waiting game for years and it keeps getting pushed and pushed further away. I'm not saying I'm not optimistic, however I'm looking forward to actually seeing shovels in the ground. The city had stated that with funding this year they can start the project in the Fall - but now Leblanc is stating "hopefully start next year".

I wonder who the top contenders for naming rights of the events centre will be?

It would have to be a company involved in financial or consumer products or services, preferably with a connection to the Moncton area.

I think the contenders might include:

- Cavendish Centre
- Kent Building Supplies Centre
- Majesta/Royale Centre
- Molson/Coors Centre
- RBC Centre
- Tangerine Bank Centre
- National Bank/Banque Nationale Centre
- Blue Cross Centre
- Assumption Vie/Life Centre
- Pizza Delight Centre
- Tim Horton's Centre

Personally, I think the first four choices above would be the most likely, and I think Majesta/Royale or Molson/Coors are the front runners.

The naming rights had better go for at least a million bucks........

Irving owns the wildcats so it makes sense for Majesta/Royale to get their name on it. I like the name Majesta Place or Royale Place for it

If they name it after a toilet paper brand, you just know it's going to get nicknamed the Toilet Bowl

An Irving name seems the most likely; especially as the home of the Wildcats.

As I said earlier, I doubt it will be a beer name; beer companies seem to prefer to get monopoly agreements within the centre instead of naming rights.

And it's within a stone's throw of the chocolate river.
