Ughh.. I hope you guys are being sarcastic and I am the idiot not picking up on it. But just in case here is what is going on.

Glendale 180 was a river walk entertainment plan stretching from Cherry to Colorado Blvd. Everything was going to get demolished but the office building. It was proposed by Glendale not the stupid rug store. Glendale tried using eminent domain on the carpet store who refused to sell even though they were offered something like $14 million for that little POS that I have even seen a car parked at to buy anything. Glendale was also very stupid by only securing something like $200 mill. Just to buy out the carpet store and the hotel would have taken up about $50 mill. Which would have only left $150 mill for a $250 mill dollar project. So Glendale 180 was scrapped but even still the carpet store is suing the Glendale (and I think Colorado) for the use of eminent domain and the labeling of the store a urban blight (which it is). They are using this lawsuit to intimidate city officials to change zoning regulations so they can build a 50 story Iraq style brick crap whole called the Death Star.

Hi all, I have a quick question: An article in BusinessDen today reported that Unico is tearing down a few buildings on Platte Street and will be replacing it with an office building. They've apparently submitted plans to the city; is there any way that I can access those to see renderings for what they're going to build? Thanks for the help!

Well it is basically scrapped. Without getting the rug store or the hotel or the other strip mall they basically have the hamburger stand lot and a park to demo. Once people find out about the park all hell will break loose. That park is pretty packed. So it might be a few new stores. That is about it. It is kinda like when get get a 40 story building proposed and it gets knocked down to 7 stories.

Why didn't they use eminent domain. It seems like a simple enough decision, and who in Denver would miss that rug store?

I don't think it was scrapped. In fact, its now under construction. The city considered using eminent domain but elected to exclude the blighted carpet seller from the development entirely.

I hope Glendale sticks to their existing zoning and tells the rug merchant to take a hike.

I may or may not have shot some aerials for 16 Chestnut and Block B recently for particular things.

I haven't seen it mentioned here, but One Belleview Station down in the DTC (or I guess across from the DTC) is close to topped out. It actually makes an impact on the DTC skyline, due to it's location.

More on Chestnut as I have seen low level activity every day at the Hilton Garden Inn site at Chestnut and 20th. They seem to be emptying out the shell but it is hard to believe that there is much more to be taken out. The demolition of half of the self-storage was supposed to herald the start of this project but it is still blighting the landscape.

No the rug store is staying so is the little strip mall and the hotel which only leaves the park and Hamburger Stand. They already backed out of all those properties. Yea they got the fence up at the old Hamburger Stand but that is likely all the development that will happen.

They stopped eminent domain because of the Nimby's.

Again the only developable space is the corner and the park area

sooo much. The renderings have the buildings looking almost Miami'esk. And since it is entertainment district you know they are going to be lit up like the 4th of July!

Hey, what is with all the German cars in the rendering. This is Colorado; let's have some good old local cars such as, er, Toyota and Subaru.

Agreed. This is one of the best projects in Denver history from my view point. Only Union Station rivals it, and Union Station was more a series of discrete projects vs. a master planned project like this.
