It appears to be excavation for foundation work, for some kind of renovation. I've never seen so many buckets, but I guess you can't have too many, and they can have many purposes.

That's the weirdest thing.

They must be saving the dirt. Is it possible they are jacking the house up than digging a deeper basement?

It hasn't been jacked up, just appears to be excavating for more basement.

One of those purposes being very dark. Several years ago a guy in Muskoka murdered his girlfriend/baby mama and dismembered her, putting the parts in those buckets. Then he stored the buckets at the work site where he was doing construction. Then the cottager discovered the buckets under the house if memory serves.
