It's a great spot and well worth the DBA grant to help with their opening. Lots of home stuff out of my price range that I would never likely buy, but a cozy, bright spot for a coffee and baked treat.

I've been to their Southgate location which is small and perfunctory.

I think they got ambitious, but what we had was fantastic.

Yeah...the exposed ceiling definitely takes away from the coziness of the space.

I don't believe that this throng of patrons give 2 shits about the exposed ceiling.
Which is unlike your typical SSP gang who enjoy making mountains out of molehills.

99.9% of patrons won't notice a goddamn thing about the ceilings....only the 0.01%. I'd only expect HVAC engineers and interior designers to bring it up.

Yea and the HVAC engineers would be drooling over visually polluting it with duct and insulation. Throw a suspended air handling unit in there to really gross it up and we would have a real problem...

Filistix will be shutting down their downtown location after Dec 31. No word on their U of A location though.

Opening a restaurant mere months before COVID hit would be very hard for any restuarant to make it, let alone in a CBD where the plan was to lean heavily on office workers. Sucks as I liked that spot but that's how things go.

I know I haven't eaten out much (and don't really in general) but the cost of dining out has definitely gone up a lot so I understand people cutting back on that. Cooking at home is just so much cheaper, even with groceries going up in cost too.

Hit up https://okinawaonigiri.ca/ yesterday for lunch. Spam forward menu and absolutely delicious. Be sure to get the takoyaki.

Another first time place; this time on Whyte below the Strat. So delicious that cream of theirs as a topping on a warm drink.
