I had heard that Princess Auto had thought about that spot but to no avail

Princess auto was trying to work out a deal at the West side co-op property.
Plaza corp wanted to much money so they walked away.
Never every heard anything about the east side for Princess Auto?

Irving owns that property therefore may not be interested in developing for anyone else other than Irving.

I'd really like to see more of this type of development downtown, this one is great news IMO:

"A Saint John real estate company is transforming one of the city's oldest businesses, adding 27 new apartments to the city's uptown along the way.

Historica Developments is turning the warehouse of the china shop Hayward and Warwick — owned by five generations of Haywards — into apartments.

But the 157-year-old ceramic supplier will continue to run its retail store on Princess Street.

Historica will renovate the building's upper floors for new apartments, renovate the lobby and install a new passenger elevator. "

They've got the centre section of the new "Parking Fortress of Doom" up now.

Before:

After:

On a side note, is this structure going to be painted or have any sort of facade? I noticed the other day taking the Harbour Bridge exit to Uptown how damn ugly that massive concrete wall is.

This company has several buildings uptown already. Photos are here: http://www.historicadevelopments.com/main.html
I've been in their lofts on King Street (in the old Tapps building) and they were stunning.

Given the deplorable state and embarrassment of the Grand Bay-Westfield Sobey's, I felt inclined to write them to see if they had any plans for the store. This is the response I got:

Thank you for writing. Customer feedback is an integral part of our business and we appreciate all customer comments and suggestions.

You will be pleased to know that there are plans for this store that will take place in a few years time.

Sincerely,

Marilyn
Customer Care, Sobeys Atlantic

Renovations at the very least hopefully, although it would be nice to see a new store somewhere along the new Col. Nase Boulevard at the junction with Highway 7. Kinda depressing they're saying any plans are still a few years off though...

And agreed! Good news on those new apartments! Anything to entice more people to live uptown!

So I guess that rendering where the middle would be glass isn't going to happen haha. So we should start to see those lego-esque coloured blocks go up soon if thats indeed the style that was chosen. It's been a while since I saw the renderings so forgive me if I'm wrong

They are planning a new store at the rear of the property of the existing Sobeys and adding a Tim Horton's at the corner. Likely starting in the summer of 2013

FREDERICTON, N.B.- There's a move afoot to build a much needed facility in Saint John to accommodate the struggling harness racing industry.

Horse Racing New Brunswick has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Woodstock First Nation to build a multi purpose entertainment complex.

H.R.N.B. Executive Director Jeff Milloy says it would be a much needed boost to the harness racing industry in the city. "We've struggled in the Saint John area for many years at Exhibition Park with the lack of facilities", says Milloy. "This partner is excited to move forward and have something that can showcase racing and the history and heritage of it in New Brunswick".

Milloy says it would take about eight months to construct the facility after a final deal is signed.

He says they are not looking for funding from the province but are hoping for it's support.

I always used to hear stories about "the good old days" of the old race track and how active it was. Hopefully this will see similar success to the one in PEI. Any word on where it will be located?

Unfortunately "multi purpose" appears to include a bunch of VLT's.

Despite the contention over VLTs a new facility is a new facility.
