That's a pretty good comparison picture. I have walked along that stretch of the East River, and the hike and bike trails of Austin, and I'm compelled to say I hope we don't "Manhatten" our Austin. I don't mind tall buildngs lining the lakeside as long as they are spaced far enough apart. But lakeside is not the place for density imo.
Btw, I know you weren't being suggestive about Manhattan, just comparatively speaking.
One thing I did enjoy about the East River was boat and yacht spotting.

Great photos! Im just so amazed everytime I go or pass by downtown at the transformation that has taken place! I remember when I used to always say why can't Austin have tall buildings or build more and then it was like the skyscraper gods answered all of my prayers and built what we have today! Its truly incredible!!!!

I understand General. I love how Austin is spreading it's towers to where it's not to close, but close enough to where you have an amazing skyline. I also like the fact that urban density is playing a big roll in Austin right now, weather it be a 5 story building or a 40 story tower.

Thank you for the excellent photographs.

Sentimental picture for my family. We gathered at that spot two weeks ago to be with our son & grandsons while he scattered his wife's ashes from the stone steps.

He helped build some of the stonework on the other side of the trail 15 years ago, and that's where he met his wife to be during their lunch hour.

RIP Kara

Thanks.

If you have ever dined or had a drink at Shady Grove or Chuy's since 1998, there's a good chance she served your table or mixed your libation.

She & my Son have always been "downtown" people.

Here're two new ESPN X Games/Austin promos. Beware of streaming lags:

Found on reddit. Pretty incredible turnout to see the bats on Saturday. It's a panorama picture so you might have to right-click and go to "view image".

I'm betting the boardwalk is going to be a good spot to watch the bats. They seem to fly almost due southeast right along the shoreline near there.

Wow. Those are great. He posts here, by the way. Here's his profile - SkylineScenes He came to Austin back when 360 was under construction and got some aerials then also. You can see those on his website also.

I've always loved waterfront skylines. New York, Chicago, San Francisco, Seattle, and my favorite from when I was growing up - Corpus Christi. Austin is getting an impressive waterfront skyline now.

Them there are a couple of really nice pics from a pretty cool angle. Is it just me or does anyone else think despite all that's going on, we still don't have that many skyscrapers.

It's not just you. Austin really still has a relatively small skyline.

Our expectations have just changed. It seems like just a few years ago, on this very forum we were looking at pics/renderings of our "future skyline" if all the proposed projects got built, and those images of "the future skyline" didn't even look as amazing as the actual pics above. Now that it's reality and we're used to it, we've got a different goalpost and we're comparing ourselves to a higher level of skyline.

Not to mention things like the boardwalk, the trees along the lake, and even the lake itself (if you go back far enough). It wasn't that many decades ago where the angle of the above pics would show a whole lot of nothing, with something resembling a creek running through it.

It's still pretty amazing to me.

The top of the Cambridge condos building looks like a nice spot:
