CBC has a story up on it now:

Arena renamed Scotiabank Saddledome

http://www.cbc.ca/canada/calgary/sto...name-deal.html
Quote:
The Calgary Flames have signed a deal to call their home arena the Scotiabank Saddledome.
Flames president Ken King made the announcement at the arena on Friday, calling the new naming deal "really, really cool."
"It signifies the closest relationship you can have in professional sports," he said.
"It’s much more than a name on a building. It is a total and mutual commitment to co-branding and marketing two of Canada’s best, in banking and in hockey."

I'm not surprised we lost 4-0 last night, maybe we sell now.... tank the rest of the season like the Oilers did last year and build for the future.
its game #1
piss on darryl by January, if they are out of playoff hunt.
Idiots here in GTA are already planning cup parade on yonge st, because they are 2-0...IT'S an 82 game season...relax.
They will make the playoffs...(Flames, not leafs)

Toronto IS on pace for a 164 point season. Just imagine - that HAS to be an NHL record.

2 actual goals over 3 games. Looks like this team has solved its scoring problems.

tonight was a very entertaining game. While I wont claim they are out of the woods yet, it was a different team than the one that played florida for sure!

Absolutely a different team, and they only got better as the game went on. They came out very flat to start both the first and second periods, but settled down nicely. So many improvements over what we've seen in the first few games - winning races to loose pucks, much better passing (both in execution, and making smart plays), better shots, better hustle all round.

Well, Jokinen can never again play on the top line, obviously, what a difference Stajan made.

and back on the bandwagon!

Oddly enough, we already had that figured out last year. The only person who didn't realize that was named Sutter.

Poor passing is one of the things I simply cannot stand, tonight's tape to tape passing was a welcomed change. Considering we're not the fastest team and the quickest thing on the ice is the puck, excellent passing will be crucial in any success this team has. The Flames looked like a different team last night and they were enjoyable to watch. Even if they had lost, that is the way to do it.

Heritage Classic tickets are going to be on sale about a month from now. Season ticket holders have until Nov 15th to buy theirs, and any unsold seats at that point (plus excess, STH are restricted to one-per-one) go into the general pool. Last I heard it was going to be lottery style.

Still not seen the actual pricing.

couple notes on tonights game...

Craig Conroy is a phenomenal guy. It's pretty obvious he is going to make the move to broadcasting at the end of this year, i'm crossing my fingers he stays in Calgary!

Karlsson made 30 saves tonight in the loss, and I still have faith in this guy. He did prove on the last shot that his rebound control is brutal though, and it single handedly lost him the win. Also fair to say had his rebound control been better, he wouldn't have had to make as many saves!

Nice to see the team putting up so many goals consistently too, and against a wide range of teams. Also interesting to note that a win tonight would have put Calgary at 7, tied for first in the league(with Los Angeles, who they beat) Says a lot considering the panels put Calgary near the bottom of the west! Sure it's early in the season, but look at Colorado last year, they did more with less!

Finally left my first hockey game before the game was complete. I've always watched people do it and wondered why they even bother showing up. Well, tonight we just could not handle the stink of the 3 people in front of us. It was vomit-inducing, never-shower BO. I wonder how the hell they even managed to get hockey tickets. Unfortunately I don't know of a polite way to say "excuse me, you smell so bad that I may start to vomit, could you please leave?", and as they weren't bugging anyone but us (no one was sitting immediately next to them), I just couldn't see security doing anything about it.

Made it partway through the 3rd at least. I swear to god, by that point there were flies hovering around. I'm not making that up. The casino afterwards was filled with the highest level of drunken obnoxious douchebags I've ever seen. Yelling at the dealers, pushing people out of the way, spilling their drinks on other people...

This was followed up by waiting at a light on 11th Ave, looking over at the car next to me, and seeing the passenger open his door and spew his dinner on the pavement.

You stay classy, Calgary. What the fuck was up with this city tonight?

Heritage Classic pricing is up.

Public sales start late this month. I had heard that sales were going to go by lottery, but have not heard any further details. My nosebleed seats in the 'Dome are translating to waaaaaaaaaaaaay up in the endzones (row 48 in section L for those that know). Yay for bench seating! Thankfully we both have excellent long distance vision

Fuck me that was lame. If I wanted to watch pylons I'd hang out near some road construction.

I dunno. I thought the Flames played OK (unlike previous games), but Detroit just SCHOOLED us.

They're a very hard team to play against. I'm noticing this more and more every year, but it's like watching robots play. The Wings under Babcock are slowly becoming Jersey in the 90s or Minnesota - very methodical and boring.

They don't fight, they're hardly physical, and for whatever reason they continue to get a bye on goaltender interference. They show very little creativity most nights.

It might be successful hockey, but it's just so damned dull. I'd love it if they moved to the east.

I normally don't root for the Flames to lose, but I'm really starting to think that way. I don't think the Flames are a bad team, but let's face it, the are going to end up somewhere in the middle of the pack.... *as usual * I just don't see the team going anywhere, for the last few seasons it appeared as though the Flames were building a contender, but it's obvious now that it just isn't the case.

Aside from their record, the thing that bothers me the most about the Flames is hearing sports commentators, saying "The Flames have to play their style of game, they can't get into a run and gun type of game"....or the almighty "The Flames have to slow the game down, they can't get into a high tempo game" every time they face a Pittsburgh, Detroit, or Washington, Chicago, etc...

If they can't get into those types of games then it's over..what's the point??

We need to start supporting the flames.........not criticizing.....and if we can only get the other half of the city to join in the support of the flames! You know those people, the ones who live in Calgary but cheer for other teams?

Personally, I think that Calgary is too much of a party town and the flames drink too much.... combine that with strange coaching techniques and ......fail!

I hope they can pull it together this year like every year.......and then take it to the end.

I was listening to Ken King on the Fan yesterday afternoon, he was answering more questions in "politician talk" than I have ever heard him do before.

Not a good sign I think.
