Not hard to do, when the obvious pattern is, as mentioned earlier, you drop by once a week or so for an angry diatribe or two to remind us all how awful Toronto is.

This time unfortunately, it seems you're here for a rather extended stay. But how about doing us all a favour and keeping your drivel in the newspaper comment sections where it belongs? (though something tells me you already devote plenty of time to your Toronto obsession on those sites too) I come to SSP for vaguely intelligent discussion, not the urban variation of Stormfront ramblings (another site I wouldn't be surprised if you frequented, this time to complain about the "third world people").

Yes, I also noticed the nazi tendancies, in habsfanmann posts as they regard transit and immigration in Toronto. Those same tendancies, are likely for less than welcoming enviroment for "Third World People" in other parts of the country, and also explain habsfanmann's extreme and burning hatred of Toronto and in particular our transit system in which these "Third World People" rely on to get to work to the Tens of thousands (70,000) jobs this city creates every year.

Here's a point I really want to make however. I rarely ever see Torontonians make any sort of negative commentary about any city in Canada that even remotely approaches the commentary I see coming from Montrealers about Toronto.

The accusations of "racism" or whatnot would fly so quickly if anyone from Toronto referred to Montreal as a "shithole" or "third world" or "bastards" and that poster would be banned right quick.


The truth is, outside of this forum which is about skyscrapers and buildings I and my Torontonian friends never ever sit around and talk about how fantastic Toronto is, or how much it's like this or that city or how pretty and rich every one is or how much better it is than every where else in Canada (but judging by this forum I could probably draw a conclusion that its people are inherently more decent than most people who call Montreal home).

My other question is, what makes Montrealers so insecure that any discussion of Toronto has to be interrupted by them so they can add their useless 2 cents about how terrible Toronto is (with decades old stereotypes) and how wonderful Montreal is? Torontonians just don't do this. Other Canadians do somewhat, but it seems it's mostly Montrealers.

Sometimes you internet forum people make me hate Canada and wonder why Ontarians even bother with you? We don't need your money (if we were allowed to keep our own revenue) and we obviously aren't liked or appreciated so what makes us such masochists that we want to keep you all around?

What you see on here is an isolated phenomenon that seems to manifest itself only on this particular forum. Most Montrealers don't really care about Toronto either way and think about it even less than Torontonians think about Montreal. This is the honest truth.

this misbehavior concerning toronto is stupid, embarrassing and largely the product of one disturbed man.

as for your more general point, gerrard, and for what it's worth, the sort of toronto-is-boring boilerplate stuff that you mention is regarded as incredibly passé in my circle and i believe in the city as a whole.

the only people from whom i still hear it are bitter old anglos and transplants from places like london, ontario, who for internal and personal reasons need to make their residence in montreal a more exotic thing than it actually is.

there is a moderation issue here, and i hope it is resolved.

that is true for francophones mainly. there is some truth to the notion that anglo montreal was heartbroken by their loss of the canadian title.

True. You do find the "Montreal vs. Toronto" thing more prevalent among Anglo-Montrealers. Exactly for the reasons you describe, and also because all Anglo-Montrealers have expat friends and family, who tend to boast about the good life in Toronto.

The expat Montrealers may miss the Habs, and smoked meat and bagels and a bunch of other things about Montreal, but they also will say stuff like: "How can still live there, with all those separatists/potholes/language nazis/taxes, etc."

Interestingly, many if not most of the anti-Montreal Torontonians I have met are people who moved there from Montreal.

Most native Torontonians I have met actually like Montreal. Along with Vancouver, it is probably the only Canadian city other than their own that they actually like (and respect).

As someone who primarily lurks rather than post, I was waiting for you to be the voice of reason in this thread.

Some of us will continue to enjoy Toronto. Some of you will continue to despise it. C'est la vie...

I appear to have taken it all a little too personally but please consider: new non smoker plus time on ones hands = recipe for indignation.

Like the first time getting corrective lenses after years of nearsightedness and realizing the world is a much less nebulous and somewhat uglier place, not smoking makes one realize it's also a lot more irritating too.

Looks very European with its tram... sitting there in the snow. You know I can't wait till we get out little tram trains here. I think it looks like a very sophisticated mode of transport. You guys are too lucky.

That subway ride to midtown is unreal, 7am and the train is packed to the rafters with people. I cannot wait for these new trains to get on the rails... it is killing me, how much testing is required before they put them into service, and bring the other cars down from Thunder Bay, at least those cars that have been built.

Bombardier Thunder Bay builds the shell. Bombardier Plattsburgh installs the interior. Even if we shipped them to you, there would be no seats or lights in them.

Somehow this is more efficient.
