[QUOTE=blueandgoldguy;8674817]That render of the Halifax Stadium looks like the original BMO Field minus the larger end zone stands on the south side for the supporters group. It looks like a 17-18,000 seater instead of the proposed 24-26,000 seat stadium. The permanent side certainly does not fit 12,000 as they suggest - you can tell just by looking at it..probably closer to 10,000 if that.

That render probably has as much effort put into it as the original CalgaryNEXT proposal from a couple years ago I'm sure a more detailed render will have a larger permanent side with 5 levels similar to THF (first deck, suite

Great to see good crowds out for the Labour Day weekend games.

Meh ..... football is an outdoor sport. Wind, rain, snow, bring it on I say. Both teams have to play in it.

There have already been 10-11 games this year? I had no idea it had started.

Some people have better things to do then follow a 9 team league.

With posts like that, I'd say you have lots of time on your hands.

It's not trolling, it's bumping the thread. Thanks drew, do it again sometime

Anyway, how about those LDCs? I'm still a little sore after the Bombers lost on the last play of the game (would have hurt less to just straight up get blown out), but at least it was an interesting game to watch. The timing of the Harris suspension couldn't have been worse for Winnipeg.

Hamilton mounted a pretty impressive comeback, and Calgary stepped up big with Bo Levi back.

I'm looking forward to this weekend and Winnipeg's revenge in the Banjo Bowl

Nice crowd in Regina...

Was that a distress signal from the Bomber bench?

It wouldn't have been economical to build endzone grandstands at THF, even to the height of the lower bowl. And large wind-breaks would simply be an eyesore.

Over time we may see the patio areas at each end built up a bit, but I doubt that will have much effect on wind. May even complicate the patterns at field level.

Wind was a bit of a surprise with THF from what I recall. Prevailing winds in Ivor Wynne were usually from the west, though they swirled (there's a story about Paul Osbaldiston studying the nuances and patterns early in his career, helping him better place his field goals and punts). But the breezes seem to come down off the escarpment much more often than expected; they don't seem to be an issue most games.

Regardless, wind is an occasional nuisance in just about every outdoor stadium. Just gotta play through it.

It takes away from the level of play though. Having 50 km or greater winds that Hamilton appears to have every 3rd game do not allow the skills of the players to be fully displayed. Punting and field goal kicking are especially a joke. Same thing applies to longer passes.

The winds at the other stadiums are much less of an issue. In the end I guess you get what you pay for.

Oh come on. 50 km/h wind is very strong.

Unless there's a weather system moving through, at worst things are breezy -- 15, 20, 25 km/h at most. Would be higher in the fall and spring with the temperature/pressure differences between the land and the lake, but that varies. I've been to about 80% of the home games and only rarely has it relegated kicking and passing to "joke" level.

Yeah, you get what you pay for. And what the budget dictated was what got built. I suppose they could have gone full ring, but at the cost of amenities the team wanted and having far fewer prime seats between the endzones. And no guarantees that wind passing above the stadium would not swirl down into the bowl.

Let's get some observations from some observers a little closer to the action upon the stadium opening. I think it covers much of the discussion.

Personally I think it's a beauty little stadium that turned out far better than the trolls wanted and seems to have hosted quite a few events in it's short life so far.

I agree, I think it's the perfect template for a 20,000 - 25,000 stadium that would suit most Canadian cities.

Looking forward to some good action this weekend.
