So with the increase in cruise ship passengers and news like a possible sister port relationship, are these considered to be big-time news? Particularly with the cruise ship stuff are people feeling like Saint John is destined to be a cruise destination as a big part of it's identity, or does the fact its only a few months a year just make people think of it as 'that summer thing that goes on uptown' ?

It's more than a few months - the season stretches 6 to 7 months until the end of October. Autumn is actually the busiest period for cruise ship visits.

That quote from Quispamsis is hilarious. I guess what he really means is he doesn't want rental units, homeowners only

One would think the cooler temperatures would deter people but, in fact, many of our cruise visitors are people from warmer Southern areas who cruise New England to escape the heat.

"He tells CHSJ news they're not against growth, just not in that area on Hampton Road."

Ohhh, so he's ok with densification, just not in his.. well... backyard.

Good to know.

Now you just need some AMAZING November festival to extend that another month

Looks like maybe a new subdivision going in on Loch Lomond? It's just past the Aliant building, right beside the old farm house that used to sell veggies..

Really?! There's got to be at least 20 acres of asphalt around that building!

Pretty sure the new Walmart is going up beside the TD Bank by Costco. They are working on it right now.

Orrr it was supposed to go up on the other hill by Car Quest

There's like four ways this Wal-Mart is rumoured on going and so far nothing has happened.

I've only ever heard the rumor referring to the Carquest area - that's been brought up for a couple of years now - I personally can't see it - the topography is all wrong for something of that size. I've never heard reference to it going near Costco.

I know conceptual drawings often change drastically but East Point's site plan shows a number of smaller lots going in there - although, I'm sure they would change that in a heart beat for a tenant like Walmart.

I still think the large empty area near the corner of Rothesay Ave and McAllister Dr (near CarQuest's old location) would be a great spot for Walmart - lots of space. Let's start a rumor about that location.
