Looks like they gearing up. The put some concrete pillars and rebar in the ground (not an architect or in construction, so I don't know the technical term).

It appears Walton is going to have a blank wall opposite of the blank wall on the other building on Delaware. What's up with that on both of the buildings? I can see Walton not wanting to face their units toward the blank wall, but why would the Delaware building be built like that? Seems like a huge waste of space.

It makes complete sense when you remember that the "Delaware Building" aka Walton on the Park aka Two West Delaware was supposed to have a north building that was never built.

This is how it was originally supposed to look. Of course the building on the right hand side in this pic is now No. 9 Walton

Whatever they are/were called, that really doesn't make sense either. So there would have been a blank wall to the north on the south building, and a blank wall to the south on the north building? I get that you're not looking at much if another building is directly across from you, but why not change up the site plan so you don't have unused blank walls?

They started construction on this thing in 2008 and completed in 2009/early 2010. The sales were really bad due to the recession, which is why it got converted into rentals to begin with. It was only recently it got converted back into condos. I think the outlook on it was better when it started though, but as I understand a lot of the units went into foreclosure thanks to the recession. They did not abandon plans for the north tower until they realized how bad the sales were in the first place - which was near the end of completion or after completion. That's why there is a weird blank middle section. The economic downtown/recession put a severe hamper on the entire thing and they only completed half of the original scope of the project. It's a weird kind of baby of that whole time where stuff kind of changed on them big time after they'd completed most/all of one tower.

Walton

They shoved the core back there. I guess to get more floor space and to take advantage of the views. The north and south sides both have sweeping views over low buildings across the street, and views west are pretty uninterrupted too.
Maybe they could have covered the blank wall with some glass, but there are a couple other buildings nearby with awful blank walls, like Maple Tower and 50 Chestnut (and 2550 too) so who knows.
Looks like No 9 will try and dress theirs up a bit.

So, I am usually all about the height, and love a building as tall as I can get it. However, I gotta admit, I love what they did with this building. I think it's the perfect height, and I love the glass.

^Also, I'm assuming this corner of the building where the floor plates extend over the sidewalk will be bedrooms or living rooms, but they are going to have some awesome East/West views.

9 Walton is gonna be a great addition to the street wall on State St. The big gap in this pic, on the left, is the Holy Name parking lot. Hopefully JDL whips something up that is awesome and really adds to the canyon effect of State St.
