This series is turning out a bit like how I expected the last one to go. Tomorrow's the last chance to get something going...

Gotta score first against Montreal so they cant rely on their defensive shell.

I think it’s bizarre that they have to play back to back games in the playoffs.

They are done. I've never seen a team so unenthusiastic about playing hockey as this one. Well maybe the Leafs. But least the Leafs took it to 7 games.

I thought Price was going to have another shut out. But thank goodness Lowery scored lol.

Oh well maybe this will shake this roster up in the off season as realistically they were not even supposed to be playoff material this year. And really as much as I want to blame helle on some loses. This is not on him. He's carried the team all season.

They need to seriously get some new life on this team as Helle isn't going to be a top tier goalie forever. I say we have two more seasons before we are in full rebuild as alot of contracts will be up. Thankfully Wheelers will be gone. Scheif needs to have his mommy spank his ass. And PLD needs to be traded. As we only have him signed for one more season and he's been a flop this season . Hopefully we can trade him for a top tier Dman. I think we have enough young guys to fill that centers position.

What hurts is Stastny will be gone most likely. And we need his experience. I hope he resigns in the off season.

But out of all the teams in Canada I'd want lose to its the Habs. No one will remember this season lol. However they would remember if it were the Leafs of Oilers.

And tbh Price deserves a Cup. Not that they will get past Colorado. But one can dream.

Edmonton and Winnipeg form a SUPERTEAM in Saskatoon and dominate the next ten years.

Terrible result. Habs are a shit team making it this far on whack whack offense. The jets at least stand a chance against Colorado, but how can they keep letting the likes of Perry get those cheap goals. Granted Perry should be suspended for being a dick and faking injury over and over.

Un-inspiring, low motivational hockey - not really sure how that is possible.

...call me for game 7. I'm out.

I couldn't agree more. After the Jets game I watched 5 minutes of the Vegas Colorado game and it was like watching a different league. Skill aside, the level of engagement and the intensity in that game was unlike anything I've seen from the Jets this series.

They've fallen a long ways from that Edmonton series.

We basically had playoff fever for a week, from the day of game 4 in the first round series to the end of game 1 in the second round series. It was fun while it lasted

It's interesting to consider a parallel universe where Scheifele had done his lazy backcheck thing and showed up one second later than he did after Evans scored his game one empty netter and retreated to safety. Could have been a totally different series. It feels like that incident and the resulting suspension just kind of sank the Jets, kind of like when Scheif got injured right off the hop in the series vs. Calgary last season.

I wasn’t a big fan of Laine by the time he left, but who wouldn’t want him back in return for Dubois right now? He is an elite level scorer. I’m not sure what Dubois is.

Laine had all of a dozen goals this season, and 2 of those were for the Jets. The way he's been playing, I'm honestly not sure what difference he'd really make on this team. Laine/Dubois is a bit of a wash at this point, both of them had very underwhelming seasons.

If the trade never happened Winnipeg would have been a better team this season. The trade was about next season and after that. Laine was completely misutilized by Tortorella, but then I'm not sure any coach could have properly utilized him in Columbus, it was just a weird acquisition for that team to be making but it's clear why they wanted to offload PLD.

Indeed, at this stage i'd probably take Laine over Dubois in most situations.

What does Dubois provide to the Jets lineup that isn't already provided by other players? You can look at Laine's goal output this season and point to a lowmark but a lot of the impact of having a goalscorer like him in your lineup is to provide options. If Laine is on the halfboards of the Winnipeg PP then he's taking valuable attention and space away from his teammates, opening up the ice more for them than another player with less goalscoring ability would. Think of how Ovechkin can distract players on Washington's PP to give Backstrom and Carlson more room to move. It's a lot more than simply looking at the gamesheet and seeing who scored that night.

To my eyes Dubois doesn't provide any of this goalscoring danger.

They wanted to offload Dubois like they offloaded every other asset they've had. Why? People don't want to play for Torts.

Dubois has been disappointing, yes. I think long term though he will work out if he stays. It almost feels like a lame duck season where he's come in to the middle of a situation. And is hesitant or something. Next year the team will be different. He'll come in for training camp. Maybe change things up a bit. He was dynamite for CBJ in the previous year playoffs. He won't be a sniper like Laine. Hopefully will be a big contributor though in years to come. He's still young.

I still believe Maurice should be on the way out. Jets were lucky to sweep EDM. Now are getting swept by MTL. A coaching change after 7+ years is in order. Not just Maurice either. Maybe clean house.

I take your points, I'm not saying Laine is useless or without helpful skills. I just don't look at the Jets, then look at Laine playing on the second line in Winnipeg, or being benched in Columbus or whatever, and think "man, now THERE is the solution to this team's problems."

The Jets are not a weak team on the offensive side of things. A decent second pairing defenceman would probably make more of a difference than bringing Laine back.

As for Dubois, it's hard to paint this season as anything other than a disappointment. If he bounces back next year then we're good, but if this is how it's going to be then that's a real problem for the Jets.

Definitely a coaching change if they get booted out of this series (actually, even if they do miraculously win). Bring in a new coach, sweep out the assistants, and the new guy will bring new blood in. Chevy has provided the talent but the team is now in danger of having wasted a whole generation of talent. No one can argue Maurice hasn’t had a shot.

According to NHL.com Laine had three points for Winnipeg in 1 game, including two goals. Sure he sucked with Columbus, but he had to play for Tortorella which most of us were guessing wasn't going to work. Slagging on his production in a new system with new linemates and a jerk of a coach is maybe a bit of a poor argument. I would give Dubois the same benefit, although he's never been much more than a 20-goal scorer, so expectations perhaps.

Notable Ex-Oilers that are still in the playoffs: Eberle, Hall

Eberle with three game winners already.

Dubois is expected to be a 1C in the NHL. He was drafted 3rd overall. He's had a down year.

He's actually had decent seasons in CBJ. Ranging from 48-61 points. He's about the same place Scheifele was at 22 for context. Then Scheifele became the point per game player when he got the shot at 1C. Fefe may hold back Dubois in that respect. Although Winnipeg should have basically 2 top lines with the talent available.

I remember back when Fefe was still young. Bambi was his name. He had big question marks surrounding him as well.

I recall it took Scheifele a while to grow into his role but at the same time I don't recall him regressing the way that Dubois appears to have this year. Hopefully it's just a minor blip for him. His game is obviously very different than Laine so I'm not expecting him to put up 40 goals or anything like that... I see his potential as being more consistent with a Wheeler, making plays and being a team leader.

As for Laine, what can I say... Torts' methods were unconventional but he was aiming to get the most out of his players in order to win. It's not like he was out to sabotage Laine. But in any event, we'll get a clearer picture of Laine's role in Columbus under a new coach.
