^ I'm going to predict "shovels" (there will be next to no digging) in 2014 with fit-up in late 2016, based on what I'm hearing

Why no digging? the foundation already exists? If so, that is awesome!

^ A 2 level podium already exists. Right now it is very under utilized. I'd suspect they'll gut it right down to the structure and possibly change some of the above grade infrastructure, but the parkade levels I suspect will remain largely intact, with maybe some localized reconstruction to suit the structure on top (What was originally planned and what's proposed now are quite different)

Either way, they're probably saving a year in the overall project cycle

Originally built in the early 80s then capped at level 2.

Wow! 42 storeys could bring it over 140 meters! (see Residences at RCMI and Pace Condominiums in Toronto)... at any rate, there is no 42 storey residential tower currently under construction in Canada under 130 meters... so this is really great news for Winnipeg

Official ground breaking for the new Huron-Superior Catholic District School Board and consolidated Catholic High Schools. Will be completed for September 2015.

Quote:
The $51 million provincial investment in the new St. Mary’s College will allow for the consolidation of Holy Angels Learning Center, St. Basil Secondary School and St. Mary’s College.

The new state-of-the-art secondary school located at the intersection of Pine Street and Second Line East, received the largest level of provincial funding of approximately 73 school projects province-wide announced in 2011.

Once completed, the new high school will accommodate approximately 1,400 students.

I like that! Would be a great addition for Nanaimo, which already has a few decent high rises for a city just hovering around 100 000.

I heard yesterday of another possible 40 storey tower for Winnipeg. No details yet but lots of excitement.

Sweet. May or may not happen, but if it does, two 40 something story towers would take Winnipeg's skyline to a whole new level
