It's just so incoherent and obviously a way to cheap out on brick or stone cladding, but people still seem to buy this stuff probably because they're just grateful to be able to buy house.

This neighbourhood in Chelsea is another example where I think they would have been better off if they just stuck with the cheaper synthetic cladding material for the entire house. Apologies to anyone who lives here, I'm sure they're very nice houses to live in....
We actually looked at those. You know what's an aesthetically nicer development? Hendrick's Farm down the street. My wife and I particularly love these:

I wish we had more developers who genuinely cared about urbanism. They'd build less ugly stuff too.

Truenorth, The photos you used give Truman Show vibes

But I think this is pretty nice for a townhouse. Better fit/finish/materials than what is offered in Ontario, particularly given the price

They aren't cheap. But at least there's a sense of value here. You'd pay more on the Ottawa side for a worse finish. And way worse aesthetics down the street.

This developer is a gem. They've developed a decent urbanesque neighbourhood. And their design choices very much reflect that taste and style. Wish we had more like these.

This should be standard instead of exception.
Canadians deserve better.

The vinyl box schlock of Ontario is bottom barrel dregs. That recent street in Halifax Metro example is hideous for around $800,000
Human storage units instead of houses.

This crackhouse can be yours for only $375 K

https://www.realtor.ca/real-estate/2...wa-centre-town

Opportunity knocks! Great semi detached to renovate or simply sit on for future development in the heart of downtown Ottawa. House is currently boarded up and no access will be given as per sellers instructions. 48 business hours Irrevocable on all offers.

Only one photo for the listing. I am guessing they didn't dare venture inside as per the sellers instructions.

No access eh, and your offer is irrevocable. Sounds like you're really buying a pig in a poke.........

How much would the lot be worth without the house???

It's a google street view screen grab too, the realtor couldn't even be assed to take a picture. I guess it was too scary to visit.

Calgary's ugliest office to residential conversion is wrapping up. The most baffling part is that they did extra work on the corner columns to cover them with shitty siding, when they could have just left the original brick and it would have looked better. What an awful, hideous design failure.

Original building:

Original proposal:

The potential was there to retain the brick:

The botched disaster we ended up with:

That would be bad enough in the suburbs, let alone downtown

Ah yes Baydo. Any recent pics of that abomination? I thought there might have been a redesign?

Developer is Peoplefirst. I think they're out of Calgary. Based off this nightmare my expectations are for them to completely butcher the Petrofina building. Will be a real shame.

Yeah, wasted potential. But IMO it's still not the ugliest building on that street.

That block is already depressing and this just adds to the dreary and soul crushing ambiance.

Went down the Baydo rabbit hole and regret it. Are all of their projects meant to look like prisons?

They even added the unnecessary E at the end of point to join the Calgary based Carlisle Group / Vantage Pointe big leagues of ugly and pretentious developers.

Are they all the same 'architect'? Is this Saskatchewanitecture?

Also found this image from 2019 of the Baydo towers that makes the current version look beautiful in comparison:

I wonder if they bought a warehouse full of the same sized small windows. Every project has the same small sfh sized windows.
