Merivale Road in Ottawa, whose distinguishing feature is being utterly unpleasant for pedestrians, cyclists, drivers, AND transit riders.

Pic #2: It should be illegal to let a property sit vacant and sink into decrepitude like that.

I despise Merivale Road. Any time I have the misfortune of being on it, it is full of asshole drivers who cut you off or proceed into an intersection on a yellow light.

Shit show road.

The 'Financial shoppe' seems like a wholesome, won't screw you over business.

Merivale Road is a terrible stroad. I agree about the drivers as I have driven it a lot when visiting relatives. It reminds me a lot of Hurontario Street in Peel Region.

He was such a great sleazy, over the top villain. Another aspect Robocop and Total Recall had in common was FX master Rob Bottin, who also did the effects for another source of favourite gif material: The Thing.

Indeed! Whatever happened to him? Last I saw he contributed some minor makeup effects to the death of King Joffrey and that's it. Such a shame in the age of cheap cgi.

If I had millions I would commission him to do a standalone grotesque interpretation of the Donald. Maybe add the Total Recall Mars surface effects for fun.

Bottin's early work includes the excellent werewolf effects in The Howling, and assisting with Maniac (1980). Maybe he did the part where Spinelli blows Savini's head off with the shotgun.

You can guess which province this is, peculiar and oddly inconvenient.

^ Had fun playing detective on Google Maps. It's Newfoundland (Grand Falls-Windsor), but I could have bet money on Northern Ontario. The siding, the windows, the trees, the doozy front door that no one uses...

Merivale Road is probably my least favourite stretch of asphalt in Canada. Familiarity breeds contempt...

Saw this the other day and wondered if it was the only leftover Boston Pizza relic from the 90's in the city. Kudos to Paul for his historical preservation.

He had the opportunity to call it Paul's Boutique (Pizzeria & Lounge). He could have made 10-20% more profit that way, stripping down the menu and making people think it's "craft pizza, pasta, sandwiches"

Also how does BP not sue them for using the wavy neon signs Haha

I'm kind of assuming if BP leaves them when closing then they are fair game. I would argue they aren't protecting their trademarks and I shouldn't foot the bill to remove them.

Not sure that stands up in court, but BP obviously didn't think much of their trademark to leave it their.

A lesbian couple I haven't seen in a few months invited me out tonight. They've got a lovely little home out in the suburban town of Paradise, so to them an invitation to a brewery at an industrial park practically in New Brunswick was reasonable. I, of course, am not going But holy shit. It's not on Streetview yet but this is where it's located:

Google helpfully marked my bus stop But no buses serve Paradise, as far as I know.

So the town has allowed a brewery to be established on a cul-de-sac in an industrial park in an area not served by buses and where most cabs won't go - it's an hours-long wait for a cab in St. John's on a slow weekend, and they'll often just decline a trip that isn't a reasonable turnaround time. And they'll wonder why drinking and driving stats are not improving Hideous.

I really am... too sensitive... to my surroundings. Some people get overcome with the weather and if it's grey, it sucks the joy out of absolutely everything for them. Urbanity is that for me. There is nothing and no one that could allow me to genuinely enjoy a brewery in a fucking industrial cul-de-sac. Might as well go get drunk in the woods.

It's been arrested and thrown in jail for being an inconvenience to condo developers. Reminds me of this gem in Toronto: https://maps.app.goo.gl/Jv6qcYJiyKXj9Dg18
