Bed Bath and Beyond feels like a store filled with stuff you don't need cleverly disguised as stuff you really do need.

Not sure about the rest of Canada, but of the 4-5 BB&B stores in Atlantic Canada, there's been chatter/speculation that Jysk might have their eye on the spaces. Jysk doesn't really have a presence out here yet but has made some curious moves in Saint John (no BB&B location there), and the Moncton, Freddy and Charlottetown BB&B locations would probably be ideal for them to roll out into.

Jysk is fantastic, better than Bed Bath in my opinion. Jysk is like an Ikea that doesn't require a half-day out.

In Anglo North America, definitely yes. Not sure about the rest of the anglosphere.

JYSK is the BiWay of furniture stores. Mostly junk.

I did buy some decent pillows ($100+ each, supposedly half price) when BB&B opened in the Aura building c. 2015.

Jysk seems to be different things in different countries. I've noticed that in European countries they tend to position themselves as a little more upscale, as opposed to their cheap/deep discount image in Canada. Still an affordable place, but the image there, particularly in the Nordics, is more "Target" than "Walmart".

The Bimbo brand name has existed in the United States for a long time, not as widely known as in Mexico but it's definitely better known there than in Canada. I'm not aware of any controversy over the name in the US, but then again Spanish is much more common there than here.

They bought Canada Bread so yes they make all the old CB bakery products, including Tim Hortons bagels & many fast food chains buns rolls etc.

I wonder if Indigo is closing? I know they say it's a ransomware attack on their website, but Chapters Indigo locations look dead to me.

I certainly hope not. Especially when the company has very little competition for in-person shopping. Very strange that their website still isn't working. I still have to use my gift cards I got at Christmas but maybe I'll have to go to the Coles store in the mall here and get some books.

did the indigo attack affect in-store payments? they had a sign posted at one store I walked past on saturday, but i didn't read it all I caught that they were not going to process returns at this time due to the issues they were having. The store itself had a steady stream of people inside.

mass produced bread is usually shite.
support your local bakery. it's well worth the extra buck or two for a loaf of bread with better ingredients. Also you help out a small business and money gets recirculated in your local community.

Yes it did, they were only able to accept cash for a time. I believe they’ve restored in-store credit, debit, and other electronic payments.

In Mexico that’s the main brand of sliced white bread sold at grocery stores.

It would be nice if there were more local bakeries. In a lot of communities nowadays, the only “local bakery” is the bakery department at the grocery store.

In the neighbourhood where I grew up, there has been no local bakery since about 1998, with A&P/Metro being the only provider of baked goods since. One must travel quite far for a local bakery now.
