Is being a Denver city councilperson part-time or full-time? Being a state senator is very much a part-time job, so that's not really comparable if we expect our councilmembers to be full-time. And the governor can easily make more than that in speaking appearance fees, so his or her salary isn't all that important.

RDS posted some updated renderings of Market Street station AND a new hotel proposal at 16th and Market that would fill the parking lot. Damn the hotel market is hot here. Not to reignite the hysteria but I wonder if this new proposal could be a long awaited W Hotel??

I doubt it but you never know. Looking at the T2 website, they don't have any Starwood hotels in their portfolio

with the Starwood and Marriott merger pending, I just don't see Marriott adding any new Starwood properties until they determine how they want to align all brands offered by both hotels.

That's excessive. Not to go all "NIMBY" on everyone but how does a carwash improve the urban fabric? There's a car detailing place on 38th and Lowell. There's a self service place on 44th and Harlan, 44th and Stuart, and 38th and Chase. Don't these people understand that this isn't ghetto North side any more and that the residents aren't a bunch of hotrod owning rednecks and gangster? I wonder if the place will at least come to the sidewalk level.

Oh...shut...up....please. Because white people don't wash their cars? There is no urban fabric in that neighborhood, period. Any neighborhood that kills a 2-story building because of concerns about density doesn't deserve the moniker "urban," and sure as hell doesn't have any interest in the urban fabric. That is a wealthy suburb. And car washes do very well locating in wealthy suburbs. I applaud this entrepreneur for seeing through the bulls**t and recognizing West Highland for what it is - West Highland's Ranch. And they're going to profit off of that. Don't worry, in a few years you'll have blonde cheerleaders from North High School doing fundraisers at that car wash. And Councilman Espinoza will lose his job to somebody even whiter, and possibly, gasp, a Republican.

You're talking about a different neighborhood. The folks up in Berkeley have been much more receptive to development as far as I can tell. They have a really great retail strip to show for it.

Although I reject the notion that a carwash is anti-urban. Urban, to me, means centrally locating the services that people want and use. Dry cleaners, doctors offices, and yes car washes (even gas stations!) are all essential urban features in areas of lesser density. It's not just hipster coffee shops and breweries.

It's on the border between the two; West Highland is right there. And if people are complaining (it's "across from the Sprouts"... which is in West Highland) - I think it is safe to assume we know where the crazy is coming from.
