Like it or not, college sports are now professional sports. They are drivers of hundred of millions of dollars and the front door to Universities. It's a messed up system - but, we cannot put the toothpaste back in its tube.

Plus it is adjacent to the Moncrief-Neuhaus complex.
UJH’s history notwithstanding..

It's just plainly unnecessary to replace the bubble and the practice fields on old Red River.
That building was a shit hole that needed to be torn down no matter what. It just makes sense to consolidate Atlantics in one portion of campus especially when you move basketball across MLK and you already have rec sports and the track stadium and swim building. It’s the athletics district of campus.

And seriously the social work building was a liability and not suitable for university use.

LThe bubble was extremely outdated, and the location was quite problematic as well. A substantial amount of time was wasted traveling back and forth to that place, whether it be by foot (about a 15 minute walk) or bus.

The main reason we've had to have an artificial turf field in DKR is because coaches tend to use it quite a bit for practice, purely because the practice fields are inadequate and inconvenient.

UT continuously replaced old buildings. I can't say I've ever been inside it but that social work building did not strike me as particularly architecturally valuable. If this facility means we can tear down the rather hideous bubble that is a pretty big win.

Let's be real. UT isn't (and shouldn't be) doing only what's "necessary". College athletics are, by their very nature, a competition. UT is therefore doing what is OPTIMAL and IDEAL. As they should.

This facility is going to reap so many benefits. The players won't have to board a bus just to go from their locker room to the practice location anymore. And it will help with recruiting. Not to mention, the bubble is a complete eyesore and could be replaced with better buildings; I'm guessing academic and/or medical buildings.

I took these last weekend. Forgive the fogginess of the second one. My camera fogged up when I got out of my air-conditioned car into the Texas heat.

Also, I don't know how to make them smaller on imgur anymore.

I will say, I didn't quite understand how cool of a view/backdrop there will be from the practice field. The players will be practicing with the UT Tower always lingering in the distance from one angle and all the big buildings of West Campus in the distance from another angle. Not to mention, DKR.

It's going to be quite picturesque.

^^^ THANK YOU for the illustrations my pal...

^^^ THANK YOU my pal @syndic for posting these updated illustrations of the new TEXAS FOOTBALL OPERATIONS FACILITY construction site. many of us (especially out-of-towners) have been wondering what is happening at this site for some time now. as a HOUSTONIAN, i am not always in AUSTIN to view the status quo for myself. therefore, i appreciate the provided updates. CDC has stated many times beforehand that there would be an on-site construction cam. however, that has not been the case thus far. nonetheless, THANK U and HOOK'EM!

I'm guessing that those photos are yours. Did you finally get updated photos of the new practice facility.

^^^ actually, no. those photos were sent to me after the game last night. however, there is a cool pal (@gillynova), who may be able to help with a few updated images of the new TEXAS INDOOR FOOTBALL OPERATIONS FACILITY sometime this coming week.

if i resided within the austin, tx region, i would definitely take care of this myself. i simply cannot understand why there aren't more images of such a long-awaited and essential facility such as this. here in houston, tx, when UofH was constructing their gorgeous new state-of-the-art FOOTBALL OPERATIONS FACILITY, there seemed to be non-stop images coming in from the HAIF photographers all the way through completion.

nonetheless, i simply cannot THANK (@gillynova) enough for agreeing to help out with this small task. I REALLY OWE him for his generosity...
