It's worth noting that the hotels do not open for another three weeks. That's potentially around a thousand guests (and destination gamblers) when booked-up. Also, I don't believe any of the conference, event and ballroom space are open for business yet. We are also heading into the slower-season for tourism.

When summer, the hotels booked, game night at BC Place and the weekend, that place could get crazy.

When do the bulldozers pull up to Edgewater? Can't happen soon enough.

The people that will order it wouldn't care about the quality of the food and wouldn't fly on a $600 ticket.

That is old now. The replacement concept, I believe, consists of two main terraced towers, featuring a bit of BC Place stadium between them, and other shorter buildings on the site.

http://dailyhive.com/vancouver/plaza-of-nations-redevelopment-james-cheng

Cheng said that the waterfront usage would be "Vancouver’s equivalent to Singapore’s Boat Quay and Sydney’s King Street Wharf and Cockle Bay Wharf". I don't quite agree as those places are not only popular tourist districts, but also flanked by their financial centres where office workers can ensure their vibrancies throughout the day.

I wish this Plaza of Nations replacement would also include at least an office tower so that the waterfront restaurants/cafes/pubs will remain vibrant year-round, and not dead mid-working day. Various types of businesses can also benefit the new Marriott hotels currently in the Parc Casino building.

I like the new major entrance to BC Place. But I really wish they'd do something with that clump of trees to the left when looking at bc place from across the water. Not cut them down, but maybe make the area around them a little cleaner.

The 1886 clientele are the Chinese gamblers that flew here from Shanghai. They bet $500+ per hand at the baccarat table. The meal at 1886 is less than a rounding error for them.

Food and service were great.
Thanks Graham_Yvr! Yes, the pricing seems inline with those restaurants.

Expensive for 1886 - MKT EAST and BC Kitchen seem reasonable.

Probably lounge or restaurant space.
Thanks officedweller! I guess I won't be going to 1886 anytime soon, LOL. The other ones seem reasonable though.

More like they dropped the ball on the massing by building a wall around the stadium.

Due to the height limits imposed by the view cones...

My pics.
It is a nice development. Ate at BC Kitchen, food was good. 1st time I visited the Casino the crowd was mostly well dressed wealthy types. 2nd time there were a lot more regular folks. Washrooms were becoming difficult to keep clean as one urinal was overflowing (some twit had filled it with napkins). The nice counter tops & sinks were filthy, I felt sorry for the cleaning staff. Tried to enter through the Douglas entrance & was told I had to go through the casino entrance, guess I did not look distinguished enough. The chairs in the casino are nice & comfy. Being a non smoker I didn't enjoy having all the smokers hanging around the bike racks as this was an issue with Edgewater (hard to breath if you arrive by bike). I did not visit the 6th floor. Also I don't think there is any free parking as there was with Edgewater. It's all so shiny & new

Glass looks nice & clean now. They redid them on Oct.5 as well.

Final touch ups:

BC Place Gate G looking a bit forlorn. Bit of a dead end now?

Oct.6 A busy Friday evening.
3rd floor high limit gaming. I think that's the Lotus Whiskey and Tea Lounge
against the wall.

The relief used on the columns is a nice touch. 1886 Restaurant & Jade West

Great set of pics! I'll try to go while it's still fresh, but after the cleaning crew has hit their stride.

Added a few more pics from last night. The washrooms on the 2nd floor were so busy it was almost impossible to keep them clean. No hand dryers so the paper towels filled up 3 big garbage buckets in no time. At least they didn't resort to using the oversized leaf blower they eventually had plugged in at Edgewater 24/7 to keep the floors dry .

Normally it's just a super wide set of exit-only doors but it opens for BC Place crowds after a game/concert. Goes right into the casino.

I could be wrong but I think the sports bar will be above level 3 and that isn't finished yet.
