Regarding Bankers Hall, a post from four years ago:

Hypothetically you might able to repurpose part of the auditorium as a subway station but it would entail major modifications, the least of which would be punching out a large portion of the foundation wall. I'm not a structural engineer but I'd guess that would not be a simple task...

On the other hand there really are tunnels underneath the Municipal Building and Olympic Plaza.
It's not even close to being roughed-in at Bankers Hall; it is at the Municipal Building. Tunnels really are already built below it and Olympic Plaza, just waiting to be connected to some day...

In short, there's a design allowance for what could then be a hallway connection to a station, but no rough-in for the station itself.
Not a station, but certainly convertible spaces. I often times wish the 8th ave tunnel project would go ahead just so I could have the opportunity to work on it. I think we'd need an initiative like the Transportation Project Office again to make it a reality.

I've got drawings for the portion under city hall. Maybe I'll dig those up this eve.

I recall Western Canadian Place (Husky) putting in provisions for a future underground LRT station when it was built.

That would be fantastic and I'm sure much appreciated if they are allowed to be posted here

Yup, I'll post something about it Aug. 3 2015 under the construction thread. I'll veil in causally with the hopes of derailing the thread.

From the webcam

Looks like they've started, don't they still need to drill piles around the perimeter?

I don't think there is much underground to excavate for.

I believe the ditch we're seeing on the construction webcam is related to this "pipe ramming" project which has to do with placing some sort of piping underneath the LRT tracks without disturbing the tracks. The CMLC sent out a little email blurb about it last month but this is all I could find that mentions the project now:

http://www.evexperience.com/tunnelin...-site-pipe-ram

I think we're still a few months away before we see construction on the actual library building begin.

I'm not liking how the NMC looks virtually integrated with the Salvation Army. I've noticed that from a variety of images / angles.

Kind of off track a bit, but as I drove by the existing main library last night I started wondering what will the city do with that building once the new library building is up and running. Anyone have any insider knowledge or hunches?
