You'd think the Rideau food court would fit a lot less people than the Eaton Centre's.
Eaton Center food court has 980 seats.

Cool Renovation of Rideau Centre

Silvia Logan
May 18, 2014

I walked through the Rideau Centre a few weeks ago. It looks a mess with all the renovations going on. The Birks, Tiggy Winkles, and Richtree are just moving to a new location in the Rideau centre. I heard that Victoria secret and Pink opened a month ago. The J Crew shop is opening in October. The Nordstrom will open in March of next year. The expansion of Harry Rosen is opening in November. The Dining Hall will open in August and it is located on the basement where Sears was once located. They opened Sephora, Aldo shoe shop, and Aldo accessories. I know that they opened a Face Lift Shop. Purgey's chocolate shop will opened near the new dining hall. Zara, Simon's, and Massimo Dutti will open in August of 2016. As I looked through the photograph, I got the impression that the LRT will be near Rideau and Colonel By drive near where the pub, Second Cup, and the food court was located. Will there be new cinemas located in the expansion? I know that they have demolished the old cinemas on the 4th floor. I am asking that question because when I read about the Rideau Centre expansion last year, they said about including an expansion of the existing cinema. I do not know what it means. What does is mean to you?

As for the Cinema, you can still see it on RC's expansion pics from March (http://www.rideaucentre.com/en/Redevelopment/Pages/PHOTOANDVIDEOGALLERY.aspx), and I haven't noticed its demise the last time I went by last week.

That said, I imagine expanding a rooftop cinema might be a pain in the ass, so maybe a full re-construction would be warranted. Still no official news about a new cinema though. With Lansdowne, I doubt they'll actually build one.

Wink Rideau Centre Video

Silvia Logan
loga0082
May 19, 2014

I saw the video of the Rideau Centre expansion. I have some idea what it will look like once it is finished. I saw that the Nordstrom will be opened on the two upper floors where Sears was. I noticed that the Dining Hall which will be located at the bottom floor where Sears was, will have all sorts of fast food places with beautiful quartz flooring, nice tables and chairs, and lovely lights. I saw that Zara's and Ted's will be located in the expansion space on Besserer and Nicholas street. The Simon's will be located on Rideau Street in the expansion. It looks like to me that the LRT will be located along Rideau and Colonel By where the pub, Second Cup, and the old food court were located. You are right that there was no mention of new cinemas at the Rideau Centre. I do not think that I want to go to Lansdowne Park because it is a bit too far from my house and I do not want to drink alcohol. I will just stick to Silvercity, the Bytowne, and Rainbow cinemas. I have a membership card for the Bytowne cinema. On each picture of the expansion, it looks like that they are making progress month by month.

Hey everyone, I'm new here!

Any speculation on other potential retailers that may be coming in the next couple years? Most other major cities in the country already have at least one Lego Store, so it's about time Ottawa gets one too! With this expansion, I think the Rideau Centre would be the perfect place for one.

Not sure about future retailers at Rideau (although watching the video on their site offers some idea of retailers they would like to get -- that is, if you alter the names slightly, do word-association, or base the names off of similar typography/logos; for example: M&H = H&M, Ted's = Joey's, etc...).

As for the Lego store, if you go by gjhall's post in the Bayshore thread, a store should end up there.

Bayshore will be announcing shortly who those retailers will be in the expansion. I can say that gjhall's post is fairly accurate to go along with information I have also heard. I believe Lego is confirmed for the expansion but please don't quote me on it (yet)!

Thanks guys! Hopefully it's true, as that is one store I'm really looking forward to having in the city. Looks like there are other big-name retailers opening over there too.

Next time someone goes to the Rideau Centre, any chance you could get pictures of the HBC renovations?

Wink Lego Store

I am not too sure whether there will be a Lego store or not at the Rideau Centre expansion. They are moving Tiggy Winkles to another floor. Maybe you can try that place. Perhaps St. Laurent Shopping Centre, Place d'Orleans, or Bayshore shopping centre might have one. You can always google Lego Stores in Ottawa, Ontario. I hope that may help you.

I was there the other day and it didn't appear much was going on other than some escalator maintenance.

To date, they've redone the basement (paint and floors) and moved women's lingerie down there where the post office and seasonal stuff and the pharmacy used to be. They also moved Marlin Travel to the basement.

They just redid the main women's wear floor area on the ground floor in 2 phases (again, mainly paint and flooring as far as I can tell).

The Rideau Street facade is coming along and a part of the expansion is up to street level.
