Better to be safe rather than sorry. Especially with how jammed up ICBC claim centres will be in the next few days!

Updated Environment Canada reports say there's more cold and snow coming.

B.C.'s winter weather is far from over, with the province's deep freeze set to continue until mid-January, bringing temperatures up to 15 degrees lower than the yearly norm.

Environment Canada meteorologist Matt MacDonald says a weekend of snow and rain will lead to a period of uncharacteristically low temperatures as an Arctic air mass moves into the region.
Quote:
He says frigid conditions will come to an end in the middle of January, when the weather is expected to return to the yearly normal.
Quote:
There is a new snowfall warning for the Fraser Valley, where 30 centimetres of snow is expected by the end of the weekend. Also East Vancouver Island is expected to see another 10 centimetres or more of snow, especially in higher elevations.

Metro Vancouver is expecting another five centimetres today and up to 15 centimetres by the end of the weekend.

The record low for December was -17.8. The coldest I remember her was -12 in 2008 in December.

After the warm up all day long, the rain, and the snow virtually now all melted... within the past half hour or so it has really cooled down outside here... and it's now snowing again.

Gotta admit... I love it!

Today was already the 10th day of snow on the ground in Burnaby. I cannot remember such stretch during my five years in here. Now that drivers have mostly got used to it, one can enjoy the beauty of it.

in 1996 the snow lasted for about a month i think, in 2008 it lasted close to a month, it is unusual for it to linger that long

We just got a little bit of snow in downtown Vancouver. Maybe more is on the way or maybe it'll get washed away by some rain. I'm betting on the rain.

Question are you in a "la niña" phase

Weather here has been largely seasonal this fall, some rainy days, but mostly a mix of sun and cloud, pleasantly crisp. No rain, except that tomorrow will be damp, grey, and overcast.
Is this an El Niño cycle year for Vancouver and the PNW? I understood it was, but that the current would be relatively short, maybe a correction of that super El Nino and 'The Blob.'
Takeoff time for me to NZ in 5 hours, for three weeks, via Shangai. Hope it's educational. Merry Christmas.

It has been a La Niña year. Hence the record breaking number of rainy days in the October-November stretch followed by what is currently on pace to be the coldest December on record. Good for the local mountains though!

Enjoy summer in NZ!

Snowing heavily in Metrotown right now. This is now the 14th day we have snow on the ground in here!

It has also been really cold and on Friday evening it was -15C on Cypress when we went to night ski there. Plenty of room in the slopes and no need to line-up anywhere.

Bon voyage!

Just heading out the door to do my usual Sunday jaunt to the North Shore. I think I'll stick to the Seabus.

It's possible from looking at the forecast, though the arctic outflow that has been bringing the frigid cold over the past two weeks is gone.
