I love seeing new developments further and further down E 6th. Lincoln ventures is on a roll lately! Any idea if it will be condos or apartments?

I wouldn't be surprised to begin seeing a lot more on Pleasant Valley given its access to both downtown and the Riverside developments. A lot of underperforming industrial areas are going to be transformed. As has been discussed on a lot of other threads lately, my only hope is the city considers a balance between good business and affordability both for residents and businesses alike.

Can car-free housing work in Austin? If a proposed project in East Austin is any indication, the answer is yes.

Those willing to ditch their cars have lined up to buy a unit in the Ivory, a mostly income-restricted project at 1309 Chicon St. Though construction is not yet underway, all but five of the building’s 40 affordable units have buyers, and nearly 300 people are vying for the 13 market-rate units, according to the developer.

Two East Austin Landmarks Headed for the National Register of Historic Places

https://austin.towers.net/two-east-a...storic-places/

Federal historic recognition is pending for two properties located roughly a mile apart in East Austin after the approval of nominations by the Texas Historical Commission’s State Board of Review earlier this month. The respective sites, both notable landmarks in the history of the region’s Mexican American community, are Parque Zaragoza at 2608 Gonzales Street in the Govalle neighborhood, and the currently-vacant building at 1200 East Sixth Street known by various names throughout its 130-year life including Clement’s Market, the Sport Bar, and finally Uptown Sports Club. With the state’s approval of draft nominations for both sites secured, each property should soon be added to the National Register of Historic Places, a status that confers certain tax benefits for restoration projects and other recognition.

Uptown Sports Club definitely needs some love. Glad to see a plan in the works for that.

I have never figured out *why* that building has never been turned into a bar or restaurant.

About 20 years ago I got ahold of the owner to try and buy the building....even 20 years ago he didn't want to sell at any price and only wanted to lease....at an outrageous price. And inside it looked like dirt floors and rotted wood. It's going to be insanely hard and expensive to bring that building back to life.

Just before the pandemic hit there was a rumor going around that Aaron Franklin had plans for a sandwich shop in the Uptown Sports building.

Hundreds of Homes Rising Near Rails on an Oddly-Shaped East Austin Site

https://austin.towers.net/hundreds-o...t-austin-site/

A six-story East Austin apartment project by local developer Lincoln Ventures is set to rise atop a triangular piece of land at 2700 East Fifth Street, bringing 625 residential units, a co-working space spanning two floors, and a 2,400-square-foot retail cafe and “urban grocery store” to the site, according to the developer — a bright future for an odd piece of land with a long backstory, including a previous vision for offices at this site by Pearlstone Partners that now appears defunct in light of this new plan.

Good materials. And that's a very convenient site right there at the outlet of the 183 Bridge.

This is East Austin gentrification I can get behind.

So much of this area near the 183 junction is just low density industrial -- mostly just semi-occupied warehouses and quonset huts, etc. I'm 100% behind turning much of this into a new walkable multifamily neighborhood.

Nice to see that area redevelop. It's such a major gateway into the city for those coming from the airport.

More importantly, it is near the terminus of the Lance Armstrong Bikeway and new Montopolis Bike Bridge and the CARTS / Cap Metro Transit Plaza on Cesar Chavez.
