That gaping parking lot really needs to be filled in with a nice new development with three levels of parking garage underneath it. Win, win.

Fares/Banc owns that one as well and has an approved design for it (very similar to the one under construction). I imagine we'll see it get started once the first one nears completion.

I cannot believe this is still a construction site and largely unfinished. Still ugly too.

Surely this must be a Five Guys Named Moe (TM Regd.) construction project.

Based on the renderings I like the design of the second more.

The parking lot is unsightly but the aerial photo shows how quickly this part of town has evolved. Soon there won't be significant surface parking left aside from the stretch behind the library.

Is there a link to said renderings?

Ah yes. Thanks!

That is nicer than the first one - no lime green inserts or portholes!

From a massing POV it's the same building spun 180 degrees. The renderings for the Margaretta show much more restraint in material use though, which--I agree with you--makes it a much better design.

Yep, they are saving on design costs.

I think the Mary Ann may turn out to be good evidence for "less is more"; it would have looked nicer with fewer distinct design elements. That being said I don't think it is so ugly that it is bad for the area. It's a big improvement over the old parking lot.

I went to check out the wine store the other week (the displays seem more preoccupied with the act of displaying than actually caring about the product), and the granite cladding was still open in corners... looks kinda dicey.

I feel like the basic massing is decent, but someone forgot to edit materials.

Yes... I was looking at the high-style metal wine display thing on the back wall next to the NS section when one of the staff came by. They said it was a bear to keep stocked and was all about the style rather than the substance. Came from Italy apparently, likely at huge cost.

They spared no expense.

FWIW, as a customer I thought that the displays were quite nice. Easy to find what I was looking for, and actually quite attractive.

I can't speak from the perspective of how difficult they are to stock, but it's not like their employees are 'killed' with all the hard work they have to do...

I happened to pass by here today and was astounded that it remains surrounded by construction fencing, the hoarding still encroaches on the streets, and the building still is unfinished. It looked like you still had to run a gauntlet of construction materials and walk under scaffolding to get into NSLC over 2 months past their opening. Surely this must be some sort of record for delayed finishing, at least by any non-bankrupt developer not named Polycorp?
