Noticed one of the four buildings at the upcoming Moda Luxe site was torn down today. It was the burned out house, so I'm not sure if it was for other reasons or if they are moving forward with the project.

Looks very preliminary and I hope the final designs are a little more interesting but I like the ideas there! Really, anything is better than what is there now.

That whole area has a lot of potential and I'm glad to see all of these projects in the works in that area:Did I miss any?

Missing the Food Alley project right across state street which we haven't had any updates on since construction began last year.

Nothing has happened at the Food Alley site for months. They gutted a building and demolished another, and had started doing utility work behind them, and then stopped completely.

Several months back, before everything hit the fan I talked with a friend who is a chef, and has an investor who is bringing him in to be the head chef at one of the restaurants that is going to open in Food Alley. From what he was telling me at the time, everything is definitely still moving forward with the project, it's been behind the scenes stuff and slower than what they'd hoped it would be going due to various reasons. Hopefully that's still the case, I haven't heard otherwise from him. Should be exciting to have that and the Sears block all come to life with everything they have planned over there. Whenever I see him next I'll ask if he has any news about the whole Food Alley over there.

The SLC Planning Director said on Reddit that the proposal above for the Sears Block is very different from the concepts he has seen.

Hopefully they rip this place down now... along with all the motels on North Temple.

I'm not sure who you are referring to when you say "they" should demolish every motel on North Temple but they are all privately owned except for one that is owned by the RDA which should be demolished this year. As you probably already know, the city doesn't have the authority to step in and demolish privately owned buildings at a whim.

The Sears Block has a much, much better updated design. It includes a lot more architectural interest, new streets, green space, etc. I think people will really like it. Phase 1 is moving forward this year.

The 650 S. Main TRAX Station has been a priority but funding is looking pretty dismal for next year's budget due to the recent extreme drop in sales tax receipts. I think that you will see a station there but it probably won't be a priority next year. A lot of city projects are going to be put on hold this year.

The Food Alley is a mess. The owners started construction but then decided that their other projects including their weed dispensary on State St. were higher priorities. I'm not sure when you will see activity there again but it looks terrible at the moment. It's also frustrating because they continually stated that the city was an impediment to their project but when their permit was fast tracked for approval they ended up creating an eyesore.

A bet

I'll give you all 10 pesos each if any restaurants open in 2020 (in the world??) that weren't in construction or at least ready to swing hammers (ie loans closed) already on March 15th. That's a lot of pesos I know but I like that bet.

Are you saying new construction just for restaurants? What about new restaurants in existing spaces?
I have no pesos to bet but I think I may have ten Canadian dollars in change from a trip a couple years ago. Though I'm not sure I'd take the bet or not.

P.S. Thanks for the inside info UTplanner, and others.

Yes, thanks UTPlanner. I hope you'll keep dropping in with these valuable bits of intel. Saves a lot of wondering about certain projects.

Are there renderings or plans of the correct Sears Block design available to the pubic?

It seems Liberty Sky may have regained those lost floors, there’s a new taller render at the site.

Has anyone else seen this rendering of what the office building that is now Liberty Sky would have looked like? I had only seen the more illustrated render.

Nice! Maybe we can get a picture of it.

I've never seen that one before. It was called "151 Tower" back then.

Here's another good one:

The 151 Tower looks so much better than Liberty Sky.

But I am not going to complain. It's development.

Let me reframe that. The city should shut the places down (witch I believe they could easily do if they cared to take a closer look at the places). Then they could raise taxes for property along north temple and give breaks to well developed and maintained properties.... force the slumlords to sale.... then the developers would be who actually rips the places down.

The gateway inn is complete BS. I don’t know how the city allows that place to stay open. It’s a well known prostitution/drug location. I’m surprised the city isn’t watching that place very closely.
