Definitely condos. They talk about the ability to combine floor plans and the webpage says “new luxury condos in west midtown”. Previously thought this was on Marietta street and was amped. It’s on west Marietta. Still nice, but was thinking it was right next to the new student housing and by Amelie’s. It’s across the tracks. Agreed, development is shifting further from northside instead of along it, which is unfortunate.

Just noting there is a long term MARTA proposal/alternative to send LRT along 8th street, west marietta, and marietta boulevard. It would pass the location of this proposal.

Of 818 condos or MARTA? I’ve only seen 2D routes and descriptions for MARTA, no renderings.

Light Rail Transit on new exclusive alignment in shared right-of-way from Cobb County to Ga Tech and the Coca Cola Head Quarters, approximately via Marietta Blvd. to Marietta Street to 8th Street to Tech Parkway to Luckie Street. I think it's great for the area and great views for sure. However, the map showing a 15 min walk to GT would be more like 20-30 min to the center of campus (biking more realistic if you do not get taken out crossing Northside DR.

Depending on the price, I do not see these as college-kid condos..unless they do them on the cheap (under $300K or so) for mama and papa to buy for junior and princess.

While I generally agree with your overarching generalization, I simply disagree with what density is appropriate within what proximity. With a few more high frequency transit lanes and more dense development, nearly any neighborhood in Atlanta could become a desirable neighborhood from a walkable or transit perspective. Further, it is not crazy to build a high rise 2.5 miles from the urban core of the southeast in one of the fastest growing metros in the US in what could be a major transit corridor with ample room for dense development patterns.

That area has no single family homes and is on the outer edge of the Midtown grid. I see no problem with a building of that height being there. The city does need to get their act together with expanding transit, because the roads alone aren't enough to handle all the new development. Once that's available it will make total sense. I wonder how many decades that will be, though.

What's really disheartening is that once they finally decide on a route they're going to spend 5 or 10 years doing various studies before any dirt moves, then another 5 years on construction, then they'll spend a year or two testing it and arguing over who will operate it, then when it finally opens in 2030 or 2035 no one will use it because it will only run once an hour because they will have sunk so much money into construction that there won't be any left to run the damn thing.

Meanwhile Elon Musk will have put a colony on Mars and China will have built half a dozen cities and lifted another 500 million people out of poverty. And we will have laid a railroad track.

Local government projects are truly infuriating

Looks like a nice project, but it's a little underwhelming compared to the 42-story tower proposal, even if there's no way the Ansley Park neighbors would let that fly. I'm glad to see pedestrian-oriented development keep pushing northward, though.

It's a right-sized small-scale redevelopment project that compliments the lower-density Ansley Park neighborhood.

I could see the site across the street being more proper for the previous proposal on this site.

I don't know what's the fascination for people on here expecting every project (even in Midtown) to be high-rise construction. At a certain point, it doesn't make the city more walkable if the project doesn't even address the streets properly (here's looking to the BOA tower).

I know this is "skyscraperpage" but people must realize this is just remake of existing buildings that abut single family homes.

Speaking of, has anyone ever seen or heard of any plans for the site across the street? It's a prime piece of property that should be ripe for development. I've been so surprised to see it continue to go untapped. Does anyone know if there's a reason why it hasn't been snatched up?
